so what are you complaining for..since he only gave you 2 good seasons..he wont be a loss right?

and trust me..if he thought that a big club would put a bid in for him whilst he was on the treatment table..then he would have put in a transfer request years ago.

Off course it's a loss because he is talented and he is in his peak in terms of his physical state, but for a player who spent a large amount of his time on the treatment table to come out and start questioning what direction the club is going and etc is hard to take. When Van Perise could not complete a season, should have Wenger shown ambition and replaced him with a class forward that would? No, he showed great faith in Van Persie and made him the player he is today. A transfer request? Yeah right, by doing that he would be waving away stuff like loyalty bonus. For some reason, I can't see him doing that.

the transfer request bit whilst on the treatment table was tongue in cheek...however another way to look at it is that he played so little yet managed to become the main player for your team as we currently stand..or stood last week before he went...that is a bigger indication of the way your club has started to think recently....that to him probably showed a lack of ambition...since a crock could become so pivotol.

I'm sure that I'm in a minority, but I am not certain that it is a big loss and I think that Wenger doesn't feel that it is a disaster either. We couldn't go another season being as one-dimensional up front as we were last season. I doubt RvP would have got past 20 goals if we played the same way we did last season. Changes had to be made and I dont think RvP can change to play any other way.

i dont think he will be a big loss in the long run either ..the sale of RVP just looks worse because his best season in his life coincided with his contract running into the final year...which also does make you think wether he played the blinder to get himself a good move?

these footballers are very selfish...and a few seasons of badge kissing should not let anyone fool us..the working class fan...the guy had a mare for Holland in the euros....because he had nothing riding on it....so i dont think United have bagged themselves a 30 plus goal scorer as RVP has got himself his big money move already so it is back to deck chairs and treatment tables after his honeymoon period is over.

For a season. We did play a dangerous game last season and in the end got away with it to a certain extent. Also, a fit RVP was always going to become one of the main guys in our team, he always had the talent to become that.

my point is had he scored his usual 12 goals..the guy would have been penning a new deal for your club..because then other top teams would have used his injury track record as a reason to not purchase him..so when it mattered for him..he turned it on...just like our very own Darren Anderton..and the more recent Michel Owen..who both had a tremendous knack of getting fit in the season leading up to a major international tournament....all in all these footballers are selfish basterds.

Jus spent the last half an hour reading all the post regarding this and I agree with what most are saying. I'm disappointed with the way rvp has handled the situation after all the years. We stood by him whilst he was out injured, kept paying him kept our faith in him and sure he gave maybe 2 outstanding seasons for the club but it still tastes bitter to see him go to Manchester united.

But as is always we move on we move forward. Remember how we were being shat on by the press when Henry left saying we would be out of the top four ( something we hear from supposed pundits every week) well we did move on and this is what is needed now, forget rvp, he doesn't deserve any loyalty or reverence from any arsenal fan! No man is bigger than the club and if he didn't want to play with the arsenal anymore then I'm glad he is gone I want the players who are willing to work hard to get into an arsenal shirt and fight for the glory

Interesting, it seems that RVP might have stayed anyway.

Feeling a bit split on this now. RVP had made his intentions clear, he wasn't going to sign a new contract. So did the the club want to risk losing him on a free next summer, when he could have joined Utd for **** all ? I can understand why they sold him. But I still can't get over the fact that they sold our best player to one of our biggest rivals.

I suspose it comes down to that one of of our biggest rivals were the only ones who were going to pay the asking price

That's about the measure of it. As much as I would have loved the club to have said, 'you're staying here, contract or no contract' . I guess the reality of it is that no club can turn down £24m, even if it comes from your biggest rival.

How many of the big teams would have done what we have done? Sold their best player to a title contender? That's what really annoys me about of this yes of course I can see the financial side of it fair enough but god you have to consider what impact it's going to have on the team and the fans and how it will adjust other peoples perceptions of how our club is run it's profit and loss first everything else second, and I'm sorry but over the last seven years we have seen how that's played out

Like I said, I'm split on this now.

Rotten van Pussy was a **** for forcing his way out of the club.
But selling him to Man Utd just makes me feel sick.

he didnt sell himself to them, the club did. He got whats best for him 200k a week. Hes gone move on already, we all knew it was gonna happen so no use crying over it. He had 18 months of genius out of 7 years hardly a legend at all. I wish him well

Wumming aside .... do you now get why we hated Campbell? Or was ok cos you benefited from a great player becoming a lying treacherous prick?

This is the same as Tevez's move to city and yes same as Camobell....

As good as Van P is I dont think he will be as big an impact to Man U as people are assuming him to be once he moves across. Arsenal will be fine, he will lose more out of this deal then Arsenal same as Flamini!!

This will just make winning the league without him so much more pleasurable.

He really is a **** for joining our rivals though.
