It was a joke. Lighten up.

Why do you want to be unbanned from our board anyway? If you want to gloat, use this board or the spuds board.

    (And why were you banned?)

If i ask for you to be unbanned, i'll probably be banned. Just PM Syd or beg SJW/Piskie/Cym. Or stick to your own board. I'm not getting banned for you, you've already got me banned from this forums NUFC board, and JA606.

Anything to avoid buying midfielders! I agree with Swarbs, Sahin would be a great signing. In fact I'd sign 2 midfielders.

What gets me is that Fergie said this would be a big season for Hernandez, and Welbeck has just signed an extended contract. It's a strange signing, one that I honestly thought would turn out to be complete bollocks. But if he's chosen us over City then fair play to him.

I had my doubts about buying RVP specially for so many millions. But hey these days what's 10 v/s 24millions anyway? it is the bl**dy glazers money and they have had a sackful in the last few days.

The reality is that if it were a traight choice between strengthening our midfield with a world class player or buying a striker then I would have gone with a CM. may be that midfileder was not available.

What Fergie has done is to increase our own firepower. If Wellbeck and/or Rooney misfire or are injured/suspended we now have RVP. If wellbeck and Rooney play so well together that RVP does not get established so be it. The other thing is that City does not get another word class striker and can afford to rest some for their big matches.

FFS it is only money and these £24 Millions would have stayed in the f***ing Glazers pockets.

I think if City had have truly wanted him they'd have paid more and got him. That's the reality.

Mancini talking about him was, I think, to placate expectant fans and keep everyone else on their toes - they just didn't want to pay the money Arsenal wanted.

They already have Aguero and Tevez (both world-class and a good pairing) with Dzeko, Balotelli and also that Guidetti fella in back-up. They don't need him and I don't think they really wanted him very much.

(Long post I know, wum's need not reply, we don't care what you think. This is my view, and is intended for United fans and the few decent posters from rival boards.)

Regarding the cost of the transfer... I do not think it's a bad price at all, I know many won't agree with me though, but we all have our opinions.

Firstly, his wages will be fairly high but that's a given, if you are one of the best strikers in the world you will command a high wage.
Whether we bought him for free, with one year on his contract or with 3 years on his contract, we would be paying him a high wage. So I do not think fans can complain about his wages.

Secondly, the transfer fee. Understandably some fans think we overpaid for him, but I disagree.

    Let's look at the facts:

RVP is one of the best strikers in the world, top scorer in the PL last season. So plenty of Premier League experience, there should be no bedding in period, he'll be ready to go.

He's 29 years old, so in the prime of his career. Yes, he is injury-prone, but hopefully this will improve as he should be rotated/rested much more than he was at Arsenal. Since he doesn't rely on his pace to be a brilliant striker I think that we should get at least 3 or 4 years of good service out of him, injuries permitting.

Fans' main complaints are that the transfer fee (ranging from 15mil to 25mil depending on source) is too high for someone with only one year left on his contract. Yes, we could've played hard ball and waited until the end of the transfer window (because Arsenal knew they had to sell him), but at what cost? We might've saved a few million, but we could've lost him to City (if they offloaded Adebayor), or perhaps some foreign club. So for a few million more we are guaranteed to get our man, and we have him from the start of the season, with no distractions to the team (like the media circus of the last few weeks).

Look at the price of attacking players in the last few years, it's been crazy. In today's terms 20mil really isn't that much...

What would fans say if he had 2 years left on his contract? I'm sure they would then see 20mil as an absolute steal. Yet you are getting the same product, so it's purely a money issue. As some of our fans said earlier, it's the Glazer's money, I'd much rather they spend it on the club that stick it in their pockets. But I don't think you squabble over saving 3 or 4 million when a player of RVP's quality is at stake. That money is nothing compared to winning league titles and collecting silverware.

The reality is that Mancini wanted him, but the City board shot him down by refusing to pay RVP's wages. That was the main reason behind his rant at Marwood in the press conference. City's owners have already seen how difficult it has been to offload Tevez, Adebayor and Santa Cruz due to paying them huge amounts - they can't even give Santa Cruz or Adebayor away, and so face another season of subsidising their wages for them to play elsewhere whilst hoping Tevez doesn't throw another strop. The last thing they need is to set their wage bar even higher, given with the number of egos in their squad and the rate they are accumulating losses.

The biggest threat to City right now is not the cost of the players they buy. It's the cost of players like Kompany, Hart, Barry and Richards realising that they are a hell of a lot more valuable to the club than £250k a week Tevez, so they deserve to be paid even more. They already had Kompany demand his wages more than doubled when he extended his contract, and they know that more players they sign at the top end of the wage scale the bigger that problem will get.
