Oh dear, you can tell I'm a novice at this and apologies for interrupting the serious points with trivia. I think I may have to make two transfers already - is it correct that if I do this before Saturday I won't be penalised??

Yes that's right Cottager, it's unlimited transfers up until 11:30 Saturday morning.

Don't worry about changing your mind, Cottager. As is usually the case, I've endlessly changed my team since setting it up. I think I'm just about there now, though, and ready for 50 Shades of Gravy to go steaming up the table (see what I did there?). Mind you, I thought the same at this stage last season and it was only a late surge that enabled me to avoid mid-table mediocrity and embrace mid-to-upper table adequacy. Onwards and upwards.

Yes wholesale changes are always the norm in the early weeks until we get some idea of which players are having particularly good seasons. Can't wait to begin the defence of my title, and with super Neil Etheridge as my current back up keeper, there will be no stopping the Bairdinhos!!

Honestly, my best period last year was January and February when I forgot on several occassions to change my team at all. On Monday I'd cringe then open the website only to find I'd moved up the rankings anyway!

What killed me last year was when a bunch of my players, particulary those from Newcastle and Liverpool (five or six players in all), had a prolonged stretch of tough games. I was at one point within 15 points of the second place, then started a long and ugly descent and eventually found myself a single point below the Captain.

As bad as that, DR, falling even below me! Hang your head in shame.

Last season was rubbish for me - I didn't do incredibly badly, but I didn't do very well at all either. I stayed smack bang in the middle of all my leagues and didn't do anything. Most disappointing.

To be bested by you, Captain, is no shame. However, we were both thrashed by Ms Penguin, so I'll let you draw your own conclusions.

I am really looking forward to this truly Fulhamish Fantasy game. All of us should have a slow start, a crisis at Christmas then a strong second half of the season for us all to finish mid table!!

There is only one other guaranteed as a starter Donny, J A 'serve them up' Riise. Got off to a great start with a goal for Norway tonight.

Out of those 3 I'd say Hughes, though we can't have much idea yet who Jol will favour out of him and senderos as they chopped and changed a fair bit last season. Baird and Kelly will most probably be squad players this season, while Sascha Riether our new signing looks most likely to get the first chance to nail down the right-back spot.

I'd agree with Robes on this. Reither is the same price as Hangeland, so that's not much help to you. Hughes, Senderos and Baird are all half a million cheaper than Brede, but aren't guarenteed starters. Last season Hughes and Senderos played musical chairs with the starting spot, but Hughes had an uninterupted run at the end of the season. Apparently he's been trying to shake off an injury this last week or so, and Senderos also has a mystery injury so Baird is probably favourite to start the first game. If he does, who knows whether he'll seize the chance and keep the place? Some of us (well, me) think he's the best option in that position of the three of them. So far Martin Jol doesn't seem to agree. If you want someone cheaper than Brede for this week, I'd take Baird in the knowledge that I might have to sell him on in a week or two. If you want someone likely to play for most of the season, I'd take Hughes.

Bidley - can you make this a "sticky" ?

I decided to run two cups and a champions league style third cup (i.e. group stages first) rather than bothering with a head to head. I'll post rules/results into a separate thread this week, but I think it'd be good to contain the banter to this thread. :)
