I used to pay the extra 3p to go upstairs and avoid the oiks and the risk of having stuff dropped on your head from the balcony. I had class even then:)

We can agree to differ, certainly - I have mates of the blue persuasion who are shell-shocked by it all who would like a clean and untainted version to do an Aldershot.

However I also know plenty who consider the current situation to be a price worth paying for their twenty seconds of fame and it means nothing to them that 'ordinary' people have been deprived of essential services, lost their jobs, been shoved down waiting lists because of the consistently adhered to policy of spending what they don't have - other people's money.

I'm sorry if you find that boring - I used to be bored in history lessons at school, but it provides balance against the 'poor fans' bit - I'd feel more sorry for those fans if they acknowledged the criminality of their 'success' or had questioned (as did Steve Claridge) how it could all add up when it was happening. Incidentally - both schools of thought within my two groups of acquaintances mentioned above would accept that you reap as you sow...and they sowed some when we were in our troubled time.

Grace? No...tempered banter coupled with accuracy and a hope that lessons have been learnt and that justice is seen to be meted out, not wriggle and further look for loopholes - like playing a coach that was brought in as a coach when they were forbidden to sign players...any P*mpey fans here want to say that was right?

End of another boring post - or, if you like, a view that doesn't sit comfortably with your own!

I doubt any true Portsmouth fan would consider the FA Cup worth their present situation. There are always glory hunters who go to Cup matches without a real feeling for the club...anyone who says it's worth it is not a real fan by definition. And most fans want their club to be above reproach, so I doubt they enjoy the suggestion that their club robbed people or cheated charities. However, the fans are not directly responsible for what has happened so why should they personally say sorry.

The word I used was acknowledged...I wouldn't expect an apology for the reason you say.

And one of my more sensible (he's a police superintendent) bluephew fans is undecided where he stands on the 'worth it' argument...he has experienced something in his lifetime that he would never have got otherwise but, naturally, balances that against the morality of it.

If I grabbed hold of Jessica Ennis' arse, I would have "experianced something I would never have got otherwise", but it would be morally wrong, and if everybody went round doing it there would be mayhem (and she'd have a very sore backside). The simple fact is that they have spent 8 years thinking that normal budgets dont apply to them. The same things going to happen with these PST dreamers. Does anybody seriously believe that they have enough money to take it on. We'll be in the same place a year down the line.

The whole thing is nauseating, the whining of UnAppy who is "struggling to get a side together within the budget", to the Blue Few blaming the FA/FL. These were the supporters who ruined the minutes silance for Ted, and we're supposed to feel sorry for them?

How can you have hated history? There's so many interesting periods and events, so many interesting empires and nations and people: Greece, Persia, Egypt, Rome, Byzantium, the Aztec empire, the Mayan Empire, colonial America, the native American peoples, China, India etc, etc.

Well, no offense but they're idiots and your sample is likely nowhere near representative of the entire Portsmouth fan-base or remotely statistically significant. Also seems ridiculous to generalise the views of Portsmouth fans based on your no-doubt limited experience.

As for the FA Cup win, I naively assumed we could afford the players otherwise we wouldn't have them. I think possible quite a few people thought that mybe.

I must say though, the fact that you refer to us as the blue few and censor the word Pompey as if it's some dirty word that cannot be uttered makes you look just as blinkered as the 'fans' you mentioned and really damages your point.

So a few scummy chavs represent the entire fanbase eh? Seriously Duckhunter, get a grip.

Totally agree with Ducky on this,if they had played by the rules after the first time they went into admin i could have a bit more sympathy with them, but they went ahead and payed massive wages again, when they clearly couldnt afford it,and yet again it is the taxpayer, and other innocent (although probably niave) small companies that have been shafted by them through not getting money they are owed.
If this had been posted on the Pompey board i could understand people being upset, but this is the Saints board for Saints fans to discuss/mock this issue.

Yes, because clearly it's the fans fault that David Lampitt was completely incompetent <doh>

I used to have to take my little brother and before the show started the manager would ask the children whose birthdays had been that week to come up on stage and he would give them a free ticket for the following weeks show. My little brother went up every week and if he was challenged he would pull out an old birthday card as evidence. This meant that I paid every week while he got in Scott free and he had 9d while I had only 3d to spend on an iced lolly. He would treat himself to a choc ice while I had a rather week flimsy little lolly.

And before anyone says it no he did not grow up to become a Pompey supporter.

Oh dear things go from bad to worse for Pompey. The PST must hope that chanrai is willing to negotiate, but has he shown even the remotest hint that he is reasonable? From where I sit the answer is NO, but maybe the blue faithfull can better answer that. The worry must be that he just goes for broke and forces liquidation to unlock the value in the land. I know about the sports use covenant, but if there is no club, then maybe the council will be forced to consider other options to create jobs etc.

Not saying it the fans fault, just saying i have virtually no sympathy for them, same as i dont remember much sympathy coming our way when we were in a similar position, just lots of mocking, and boasting about how rich Pompeys owners were, and even at the start of last season(may have been the season before) how Pompey were going to buy Lambert and Lallana cos they could afford them and pay better wages than us.
Not really aiming this at you PL,you seem a decent sort of bloke,as do a few other on here, but i just remember that the majority loved giving us stick when we were in trouble.

    Spot on.

I can not think of another example where a club has just stuck 2 fingers up at the rules. All the other high profile busts have resulted in the club cutting their cloth accordingly, not them. Even now they had a web chat today and dumb Skates were asking "where's the new signings" . Since the 60's they have been in sharp decline and yet none of them wondered how they could afford the Crouch's and James' of this world. In fact they loved it, singing one Peter Storrie.

On their own there are a few reasonable Skates, as a group they are unbearable, bit like the French really. You only have to look at the state of their bestest fan, that tells you all you need to know.

Either save the club or let it die, but please bloody hurry up about it because this is a very boring saga and we've got far more important things to occupy our time than having to endure more bloody weeping skates in the news.

Fair enough, I remember on 606 that most Portsmouth fans were supportive of Southampton (except for TFLS probably) but of course that's a tiny sample, but anyone who wants another club to get liquidated, rivals or otherwise, isn't a proper fan.

I'm sorry Duckhunter but you're so bloody blinkered I can't really take you seriously.

Again a selective and misleading interpretation...I found it boring but I learnt - how does this become 'hated'?

Latterly I realised the relevance of history as I would hope that maybe you (and I mean you collectively as representative of your particular group of supporters rather than personally) will understand why many (and way beyond Saints fans) find the behaviour of your club unacceptable and the attitude of a sizeable proportion of your fanbase abhorrent. Yes - I generalise in exactly the same way as you have and probably with a similar cross-section of opposing fans to draw my experience from. I believe I stated that early on?

I don't pretend to like the fanbase of a rival club in a generalised way, that I use mildly mocking terminology - but my post indicates clearly that I have friends and acquaintances who are - you have made the assumption that because of this I must be blinkered - that my point re the reasons that I feel that wrong has been done is damaged - does that not seem a little ironic to you in this context?

I feel that to give an opinion on a forum (Saints forum) on a thread entitled 'Chanrai pulls out' is relevant. I have a moderator opining that it's boring and that I should respect the feelings of fans of our rivals - well, I make no apology for being a Saints fan on a Saints forum and in this media as in life respect has to be earned - and the actions of the 'dear to your heart' club create only feelings of revulsion and betrayal of the spirit of the game so I'm unlikely to show respect..on a Saints forum or any other!

I'm obviously aware that all fans don't think the same way (again read from the start) but there are a vocal and I would say sizeable number who support your club that have created this image for your club...and in my opinion a suitable consequence of the actions of the old clubs (how many incarnations?) would be to liquidate them and start again with a less-soiled model...if there was a groundswell of feeling towards this then maybe you (collectively remember?) can start to think about the word 'respect' again.

    Until then....

If I started getting loans I couldn't afford to pay back, stopped paying my tax and nicked the charity box in my local, to fund a lifestyle I couldn't afford would it be Mrs Duck's fault. Well maybe not in the strictest sense, but if she started lording over the neighbours, rubbing it in, started posing around town in a Roller, that she knew my wages couldn't buy. If she hackled the neighbours loved one's memorial service and generally took the piss out of her, what would their response be when it all went tits up? Oh, poor old Mrs Duck, she had no idea that there was no money, it's not her fault. Or would it be, she should have known, all the time she was rubbing it in she must have known it was dodgey and what's coming to her is karma. She may not have pinched the money, but she loved the proceeds of it, and loved the fact the neighbours didn't have a pot to piss in.
