Hello all, some of you may remember that last year I was doing some fundraising for Alzheimer's Research UK through Iceland and that I walked from Blyth to Whitley Bay dressed as a giant rat (on account of the fact I am human-sized). This year Iceland have chosen to support the same charity for a second year running which is fantastic! Having researched this cause I've become rather passionate in my fundraising and I would love for our store to surpass the £2700 we raised last year which is why I'm doing a lot more this time around. Whenever I have a gig I take along a charity bucket. I've organised a pub quiz which at the moment is staff only as the prize for winning is £100 towards the winning store's charity total (though if people were okay with representing their local Iceland then they're welcome to come along. I'll be taking part in a it's a knockout competition which should be fun/hazardous. Doing a car boot sale and tombola. Walking from Blyth to Tynemouth dressed as a crocodile (if you've seen a massive green thing around Blyth before, that was me). If I can find stocks, getting wet sponges thrown at me for 50p... This year though I'm doing something bigger and this is where I'm asking maybe if people could help? I plan to do a walking tour of the north east, 100 miles in 8 days (bear in mind I'm a fat bastard) and I'll be stopping at pretty much every Iceland along the way. In order for me to collect money in a bucket I have been told I must have at least one 'buddy', for security reasons. The routes are as follows; Sat Aug 18th: Blyth-Whitley Bay-North Shields-South Shields (14mile) [this one is sorted] Sun Aug 19th: South Shields-Southwick-Pallion-Sunderland-Ryhope (12mile) Mon Aug 20th: Ryhope-Peterlee-Hartlepool (16mile) Tue Aug 21st: Hartlepool-Billingham-Middlesbrough (11mile) Wed Aug 22nd: Middlesbrough-Ormesby Rd-Coulby Newham-Thornaby-Stockton (11mile) Thu Aug 23rd: Stockton-Yarm Road-Darlington (12mile) Fri Aug 24th: Darlington -Bishop Aukland-Spennymoor (17 mile) Sat Aug 25th: Spennymoor-Durham-Dragonville (7mile) It's a long shot but if anyone has the spare time and the stamina, I would be incredibly grateful for any volunteers to accompany me on one of these routes (to the tune of a couple of pints ). On an average walk you'd be surprised how much you can get in a bucket, averaging about £150 from my experiences in the past so you can see why I want to bring one along, could potentially add an extra grand onto my total raised if I had people to walk with me. It's a big ask I know but as the saying goes, shy bairns get nowt. Of course I'm looking for sponsors too, I know times are tough right now but this is a cause I care deeply about, enough to wreck my body over. If you can help in any way, even if it's just advice, please PM me. Thanks for reading. ps. If you have anything that could be sold at a car boot sale or used as a raffle prize that you don't mind donating to charity, pop into Blyth Iceland and ask for 'Rowan'.
Can't buddy up with you on the walk I'm afraid Mod Face, but will PM you re sponsorship! Just need to work out how to - never started a PM before. Oooh, a first!
Getting close to full on flood levels here! Morpeth is usually worst hit when it happens so I hope they've got plenty of strong swimmers!
Playing at the Craster Arms, Bedenal tonight, anyone who lives in the area who fancies coming along, please do. I never knew there was a 'North Sunderland' in my county! <edit> Collected £39 in a bucket.

BUMPITY BUMP It's this saturday I'm heading off. I sprained my ankle tricking on at a bowling alley last month and did some nerve damage too so preparations have been a little nervy. Got through a practice walk Blyth to Whitley Bay okay dressed as a crocodile on sunday so I'm confident my ankle will hold. Got my hotels booked and pretty much everything sorted, just a case of shamelessly promoting my charity page now.
Good Luck, hope your injury doesn't hamper you too much, will look out for you en route. Try and post whilst on your travels, we'll be able to encourage you if you're flagging, (sure you wont though)
Yeah I'll keep this thread updated thanks to the Not606 app, it'll give me something to do between nursing my blisters.
