Ki-Sung Yeung QPR chairman plays down Celtic star link Ian Cooper Tuesday, August 14, 2012 11:55 AM Rangers will not sign players for commercial reasons, insists Fernandes QPR chairman Tony Fernandes insists that the clubâs commercial interests in Asia will have no bearing on any further signings this summer. A hugely successful pre-season tour of the Far East, coupled with the signing of Ji-Sung Park from Manchester United, has allowed Fernandes to successfully establish the QPR brand in Asia. The Rs have also shown interest in Celticâs South Korean midfielder Ki Sung-Yeung, and face competition from Arsenal to secure the 23-year-oldâs services. However, the chairman insists that manager Mark Hughes will have the final say on any more new arrivals. âWeâre not going to sign a player if it doesnât make sense to the manager,â Fernandes said. âI own an airline which flies to Korea and is having huge growth in Korea, but thatâs a bonus â a fantastic icing on the cake. âLet me make it clear that weâre not going to sign a player just because itâs good for AirAsia or our sponsors.â Follow me on Twitter @QPRTimes.
He doesn't actually play it down, he's merely stating that the motivation is ultimately football based. I wouldn't be too surprised if TF recommends the odd player that would help the brand and if MH thinks they're going to improve the team then TF goes above and beyond to make it happen. Nothing wrong with that at all.
