Just reading that the deal is pretty much done, but before signings, Anita wants to talk to Pardew about things.

Sounds like the right sort of player for us. Most would only be concerned with their wages, which their agent could sort out.

Sounds like Anita really wants to talk about our ambitions and is more of a complex individual.

Oh no, a deal-breaker then. Never mind, back to the drawing board.

He wants reassurances that he will play in midfield and not full back.

I think Pardew will see him as a midfielder and we will look to bring in another fullback, but where I think it could fall down is he will probably want first team football and yes we've got the Europa league potentially as well as the two cups I don't think we'll be able to give him any more than 15 - 20 games.

I can't see him being a regular starter only someone who comes in for cup games and to cover injuries and suspensions. I don't think he'll be happy with that at his age

Of course because he will leave that to Collocini. I hear he wants curly hair too.

He'll be ahead of Amalfitano, Bigi + Abeid, so he'll be competing with the likes of Jonas + Marvo. I can see him getting games - especially if Cabaye + Tiote are carrying knocks. Good cance he'll rack up some appearances, whether as a starter or from the bench.

I see him as a midfielder too, only a cover for fullback.

Does anyone seriously think that someone as fiscally careful as Mike Asley is going to part with the bones of £6-7m, plus agent's fees etc, for a benchwarmer?

Most players will want to speak to a clubs manager before proceeding, just to know what their plans are etc. I've read a few comments here and there over the last few couiple of weeks suggesting that this is him being demanding but its just standard fare. You want to know your anticipated role, and the general plan for the future. Then you see who offers the most money and sign for them anyway <laugh>

Anita - "I've heard you tap up your players wives, can you assure me this is not the case"
Silver Fox - "Come on, have you seen Jose Fonte's wife? Who wouldn't? Don't worry Vern, I promise I won't touch your missus, honest guv"

I see the Chronicle are suggesting we've turned our attention from Debuchy to Van Der Wiel but baulked at the wages. Now we're going back to Debuchy...............this one could run and run.

Anita's position is like the position Jonas plays in our our 4-3-3. Starting at the back, being a bit more defensive, but also making runs forward, and being part of an attack.

If Anita proves he's more effective than Jonas, Tiote or whoever, he will get starts. No one should be guaranteed a spot.

That's why I'm sick of people saying "If Jonas is fit, he should play, he's so important".

I'm not disagreeing that he's a major part of our squad, but if someone better comes along, I'd have no trouble with Jonas being dropped.

However, since we'll hopefully have a lot of games to play, everyone will get a number of starts/apps, so hopefully everyone will be happy.

Its quite simple this really. He'll be part of the first team squad. There are no guarantees, its about fitness and form. They will all bring different attributes which will need to be carefully selected to match the opposition. Its pretty obvious if we are going to pay the kind of fee suggested that we see him as a first teamer.

The days of a first choice XI though are pretty much gone. Certainly once you get into Europe.

Aye. Hopefully he'll provide some healthy competiton for places. It's no good having agreat starting 11 who are all assured a start and then nobody challenging them. Then complacency sets in and players can dip in form - not to mention injuries / suspensions causing problems.

We have decent cover across most areas now, although I'd still like to see a strong CB and decent striker added - and not saying no to Debuchy either.
