Yes it was stated again today on the news by Tory high command

Sorry, it was`nt Cerebral Palsy, that was about something else connected with the olympics. The one I mentioned suffers from Parkinsons Disease. I heard it on the news, but finally found it. (nas)Stazi strike again.

    £13,000,000,000 cost,and 65 medals won.

    That's £200,000,000 per medal.

    What fantastic value for money,eh?

Oh,and I heard the cost could exceed £20,000,000,000.

And the olympic village, the place where the athletes stayed was sold months ago. To a Tory supporting donor for a fraction of the real cost it should have been sold for. well well, no surprise there then.

Affordable housing, yeah right, we`ll wait and see. Well I`ll go to the top of our stairs? <laugh>

Perhaps you should look at it when the actual figures are in, looking at it as the gross cost of something doesn't equate as to the cost. Money has come in through sponsorship, ticket sales, selling on different parts of the Olympic infrastructure afterwards.

Also how can you come to those figures in regards to the medals when the Paralympics hasn't even started yet, or are you suggesting that TeamGB will win no medals at all ?

The government really missed a trick.
They should have handed the games over to a certain well known double glazing firm, who would have done a BOGOF,you know "Buy one get one free".
That would have brought the cost per medal tumbling down. ..

The cost of producing the games is/was obscene, and a complete insult to those who are being denied a comfortable retirement, job training/provision,health care, proper policing,etc.,etc.,etc.

A couple have just won £148,000,000.00 on the Euro Lottery, and good luck to them.

It's sobering to realise that they are still £52,000,000.00 shy of being able to afford a medal.

Keep on buying the tickets is my advice to them. ...

If it costs £13bn and they get £13bn back, the actual cost of the games is a moot point. It will always cost something to build events like the Olympics, and it will always be an eye watering amount of money. But there are a lot of benefits of having the games, the negatives are there also but in my opinion the benefits outweigh the negatives.

Also you are focusing so much on the games here, what about the football? The amount of money bandied about is equally obscene, the Swans has received £15m for Allen which I think is a disgusting amount of money for a player, yet people don't bat an eyelid on that. Why is that ? Is it because it's our club ?

The club is about to get another £40m for the season, if we forego that and put it all into grass roots football in the Swansea area what would that do for local teams and the kids coming through? Or might that be considered a waste of money also ?

I think the Olympics has been good for our country expensive yes, but most if not all of that cost will be recouped. When the figures are in on what has been spent and what has come back in, then we can determine if it was all worth it.

I quite agree. The amount of money bandied about in football is obscene.
However, it pales into insignificance when compared to the olympics.
Any financial assistance that Swansea City can provide to grass roots football would be a great idea.
If they don't already do it,perhaps they could be lobbied to look into it.
So, I don't think that would be "a waste of money also".
In my opinion, the olympics was a colossal waste of money, and nothing will change that viewpoint.
    You have a contrary opinion,and that's fine.

How can it be viewed as a waste of money when nobody knows exactly what it will bring back in ? I would say that this games will make a profit once it's all over, so no colossal waste.

For myself the waste of money is financing the armed forces, and conducting wars! They are both interconnected they both cost huge sums of money and lives. If the human race actually grew up and learned to live together then it wouldn't be needed.

The Olympic games, the world cup, the commonwealth games help bring people together in a positive way, yes it's costs money to run these and other events, but money spent positively rather than to fund yet another war, or another way to kill people.

There is a lot of **** in the world, just dwelling on that with no respite for other things will ultimately lead to more strife. Look at the countries competing some them are at war or were with each other, yet normal people who are athletes bridge that, and by doing so the spectators also bridge that.

For myself I think it's a great investment, and gives us something to smile about, and honestly there is nothing wrong with that.
