I hope Mrs Boss doesn't find out.

For a little consideration she won't.

At last, the season is almost upon us for real!

Should be a great game to open the season with and I can really see this one going either way. The first game of the season often throws up some odd results.

Just hoping our injury concerns aren't too bad, otherwise we could get turned over badly.

So what team will spurs put out? Yet to sign Adebayor, rumours of Sandro, Modric and Parker being out...Bale was 'injured' for the Olympics but then magically played some friendlies. apparently AVB is favouring Jenas to big fat Tom Huddleston. Rumours of Defoe being out too, and Ledley King has now hung up his boots. Their cb Dawson has always looked decent, and clearly plays with passion, however much like Saylor is always injured.

    AVB prefers the 433 to 'Arry's 442.

    Friedel
    Walker Kaboul Bassong? BEA
    Livermore Jenas
    Sigurdsson
    Lennon Bale
    Defoe

Loads of pace down the flanks if that's how they line up which would worry me, however as AP said last night, games are won in midfield, and based on that we have a superior midfield (just depends if both Tiote and Cabaye are fit). Will be interesting to see Sigi step up as he was quality for the swans last year.

They have Vertonghan as a new CB. Also, I'm not sure how they'll line up now with Sigi and VDV in the same squad. I can't see them playing alongside each other as both like to play as advanced/attacking midfiled. You're right about the midfield battle though and both teams seem to have injury concerns to key players there at the moment. IF they had Modric, Parker with Sigi, Bale and Lennon then I'd be very worried - especially if Tiote + Cabaye are out. But it doesn't sound like Modric + Parker will play. Fingers crossed.

I can't wait for this it seems like a lifetime since the last home game and a good good session on the drink. Shame there's no 12:45 Premier League game on, but the Championship one will do then a 3 o'clock game on a snide channel then off to St. James if my ticket has arrived by then.... Nothing better in the world for me like. As usual though the build up will be followed by a massive disappointment and a controversial 1-1 draw no doubt.

This is the team that I would go with (if fit)

    --------Ba-------Cisse---------

    Marveaux---Tiote--Cabaye----Jonas

    Santon--Colo----Saylor---Raylor or Perch

    ------------Krul-------------

I think we will need Jonas on the right just to protect whoever plays at right back in stopping Gareth Bale. I'd be surprised if he plays Simpson as the rumours of him leaving won't go away and with all the talk of us bringing in a full back I'd be surprised if Pardew will think he's in the right frame of mind to start such a big game. Plus he if he did start he's going to have one of the toughest games of his career up against Bale.

I think Marveaux has looked excellent in preseason and he's bound to start to give us that creative flair in a wide area since Ben Arfa is unlikely to be fit with Amilfitano and Sammyobi coming off the bench as impact subs late on

Take out Bassong and add Vertonghen.

Also Huddlestone may start, not sure about Sandro because of the Olympics.

Also he may play VDV as a deep holding/play maker.

To be honest its hard to be 100% sure what AVB is going to do as in pre season he has given players like Jenas and Bentley a chance when they don't deserve a chance!

Also AVB likes a high line so expect us to try and dominate possession and push you back - I'm not a fan of this high line as if we manage to dominate, we leave ourselves open to the counter and with ba and cisse, they are smart enough to exploit it.

Sigurdsson should be involved in all of our key attacking play and him and Bale have linked up well in pre season so they are our danger men.

Trouble is, we only have Defoe upfront!

Forgot you still had Bentley. Interesting tht AVB has been giving him and Jenas a run out - or is it to put them in the shop window?

Surprised you've not sorted out another striker yet, although appreciate the Adebayor 'deal' has stalled. Still would have thought be seeking further back-up.

Either way, the likes of Bale, Sigi, VDV, Lennon + Defoe could cause us serious poblems. Should be a belter if both teams can field a first choice line-up. <ok>

from what avb has been saying, it seems he believes we only need to sign one striker so it looks like we're waiting to get adebayor on the cheap, which just sums up the way we do business!

and as for jenas and bentley, avb seems to rate them, especially jenas, he has featured in virtually all our pre season games and as avb likes this 4-3-3, he has been trying to use bentley as back up for lennon i assume.

defoe has been getting alot of stick and it is worrying if we're left with him as our lone striker, and if your defenders are smart they can shut him out and there is no one to link up between midfield and attack but yes we have players who can cause some damage but im expecting cisse and ba to give us the run around if we play this high line.

Not one of our greatest moves but he was seen as the next David beckham back then after a great season with Blackburn and Levy had just brought in Ramos who he felt could get us into the champions league and Ramos made it clear he wanted Bentley, awful decision!

The Boss - is Dawson fit these days? I know he struggled with injuries, but is a decent CB when fit. I'm assuming he and Vertonghen will be your first choice pairing?

Santiago - You're looking like a toiger today! We may have to let you loose on Bale before the match starts.

I had a good think about this in the shower (this is what I do); it really wouldn't surprise me if Raylor, Perch, Willo, Ameobi and Obertan started. With our reported injuries, the 'R' word/fasting players and Pardew's loyalty to hard working players in training I can see some utility heroes getting in the line up. I can see Pards trying to ease Saylor back into regular football too. I hope we see some rotation and preferably have the utility type players available for Thursday night instead but this is my gut feeling.
I'd like to see some faith restored in Ba after he stayed, and his pre-season form. I am hoping we for a 451/433/42121 type formation with Ba leading the line and some surprises (marvs <whistle>).

Depends what you class as fit, Dawson is one wrong move away from being injured again! Yes he is available and is our club captain but I think it would be hard to remove Kaboul as he was our best defender last year and Vertonghen was our main transfer target for the defence.

I won't be surprised if Dawson is picked but as avb likes this high line then kaboul and verts seem a better option.
