Without a doubt it's Simpson. From a full strength 11 perspective he is the only player I would swap out with a new signing going purely on the positions we are supposedly looking to strengthen.

Simpson at present, however he could do a Perch and re-invent himself this season. I think he needs to communicate more with the midfielder on his side the right sided centre back, this will help him to know when to close down and when to back off as he'll have other players to pick up runners/space - as really this is his only big weakness.

Looks good to me. And out of that 11 I agree with Simmo being the weakest link. <ok> Of the 'first team squad', Willo is still mine.

I'll have to say its Simmo first, Willo second(Saylor's much better).
These two always look so afraid when in possession...Simmo can't even judge the bounce of a ball well, he's let the ball just bounce past him or misjudged the bounce many times already in the past...I truly hope somebody replaces him, otherwise he'll always be a weak link in our starting XI.

As for Willo, for such a tall player, his heading is really poor...He doesn't have the technique for heading like Saylor or Colo. If he had it, he would've scored a few times already. I don't get why Pardew keeps claiming he's a threat from set pieces when I have rarely seen him head the ball with the kind of power central defenders possess with their heading ability... That said, he did assist Shola for the "disallowed" goal against can't rmb whom and that may be a sign of improvement in that regard. However, he still has his flaws in defending(I like his ability to tackle with his feet, and ability to challenge for aerial balls, but he makes many silly fouls too) and in ball possession too.

In the future, if our RB is replaced , I would then hope that I can say that our next weakest link is going to be Jonas... I love his work-rate and all but he isn't the best winger you can have..

Willo agree with Obi also he hoofs the ball away and most of the time giving it to opposing side.

    Oh, no ACS.

No, no, no, no, no. Anne Robinson?

When it was all about Karen, I could understand the fascination. But Anne Robinson?

I think YOUR EYES are the weakest link on this thread.

If it's ANY red head then I'm fearing that Ronald MacDonald might even be on your wish list.

I'd say our non existent left back! We have right backs coming out of ears and are about to purchase another in Debuchy. Poor Davide won't get to strut his silky stuff in his natural role. But of the players we actually have I worry when I see Obertans name. With Willo I feel ok if Colo is playing. If not its panic stations!

If we were talking first choice team I think you'd have to go Simpson although I think he is a very solid full back, he is probably the least naturally gifted of the first choice 11.

I'd have to disagree here I think Santon can defend and he will prove his value to the team this season. You've got to think that last season was his first in a new City and league where he didn't know the language or what to expect. Other players have settled easier and quicker, but the bulk of our foreign signings have all either been French or spoken French and know people already at the club which has made settling that bit easier.

As the only Italian I can imagine he had a job getting adjusted to the club and the City, but all the talk from him (and surprisingly his agent) quashing rumours of a move back to Italy and wanting to stay here sounds really positive. He showed in spells last season how good he is going forward and how well he can defend, but consistency was his major problem. Pardew will get the best out of him though I've no doubt about that.

The weakest link is definitely Simpson by a country mile. Absolutely hopeless going forward, which must be frustrating for Ben Arfa or whoever is played infront of him and while his goal line clearances were a godsend at times last season his inability to close down defenders and the amount of times he was done for pace on the wing is worrying considering his age.

He's improved a lot since we signed him on loan in the Championship, but he's hit a wall where he doesn't look like he'll improve any more and to continue to challenge top eight he needs to be moved on and someone better brought in

While i see where everyone is coming from and think we probably all have our own opinions on our players, i think we should all be keeping those opinions quiet for now and getting behind ALL of our squad ready for the start of what looks like it could be a long and tough season. Howay the lads (All of them)
