Everton accept City bid for Rodwell

Jack Rodwell will undergo a medical with Manchester City after Everton confirmed they had accepted a bid from the Premier League champions.

Only on Friday, manager Roberto Mancini was bemoaning the Barclays Premier League champions' lack of new signings.

But ahead of today's Community Shield encounter with Chelsea at Villa Park, it was confirmed City had agreed a fee for Rodwell.

"Everton have agreed an undisclosed fee with Manchester City for the transfer of Jack Rodwell," said the Merseyside outfit in an official statement.

"The midfielder is set to undergo a medical with the Premier League champions on Sunday."

The 21-year-old won his first England cap last season and has previously been linked with Manchester United.

Although he has been troubled by injury problems throughout his short career, robbing him of the chance of featuring at this summer's
Olympics, Rodwell has been rated in the £20million bracket and is seen as a regular international of the future.

He was named in Roy Hodgson's squad for next Wednesday's friendly with Italy in Switzerland.

There have been rumours NDJ is wanted by Tottenham, Bayern Munich and Roma, so maybe RM thinks he will go and we will need a replacement.

"Mancini, speaking before City's Community Shield clash with Chelsea, told ITV:

'Jack is a young player - he will be an important midfielder for the England national team for the future, and for us I hope.
'We needed to put in (midfield) a player with good attitude, who wants to win, and I think he will be a top player for sure.'

    An Everton statement read:

'Everton have agreed an undisclosed fee with Manchester City for the transfer of Jack Rodwell.
'The midfielder is set to undergo a medical with the Premier League champions on Sunday.'
Mancini has finally moved after having long-standing interest in Rodwell"

We will lose Yaya in January when he plays in the ACN as as i stated above NDJ could also be going before the window closes, this is a great signing as it keeps the English quota up and as he was priced at £20m which RM said he wouldn't pay they have reduced it to sell him to us.

Very good player when not injured. Cant see him getting a sniff though.

Not the wisest career move. Money talks though as I am sure his fellow bench-warmers will attest too.

He was only warming evertons bench generally so as a career move it's a nobrainer for him,he will definitely play plenty of games if he stays fit.The fallacy often given about city players hardly getting a sniff simply isn't true
Adam Johnson for instance played 26 times in the PL last season, one more than Ashley youngs 25. All you hear about is a negative spin on it from the media that players are wasting their careers at City but elsewhere it would be the quality of the bench.
Berbatov for instance, top scorer in the whole league the season before, plays only a dozen times basically left to rot on the bench

How much time did Johnson spend injured and how many times did he play 90 mins? it is not all about how many times a player takes part but how many minutes they get.

You see him as a stand in for Yaya? i am amazed. Everton tried for 20mil because it was you, they were probably happy with the 15mil they got because in the last three years he has shown no improvement at all, Mancini also knows he will never have to pay the full 18mil because it is based on game time and performances. (The figures of 15 and 18 are just the most published/guessed at ones, i don`t pretend i know the real figures).
