With only a few more days to the start of the new season and no new forward recruits signed up, and our pre season record not brilliant are we in for a lot of results starting next week at Arsenal with a nil return against our goals for column. Ive tried not too join in with the doom and gloom merchants but this is getting too close for comfort, and can forsee a lot of heartache in the coming weeks and months, hope I'm completely wrong.
I think we'll sign a striker but it'll be on deadline day. Prediction Arsenal 4 - 0 Sunderland :-( The last time we lost 4-0 in London on the opening day we went on to have one of our best ever seasons in the Prem so hey ho
Over the years I have found the best betting strategy on Sunderland games is to back the outside result of the three. By doing this you get some nice surprises eg 3-0 away to Chelsea at 11-1 (a team never again selected by Bruce as he will have been distraught with that result) and some bizarre consolation if you lose at home to Notts County. Therefore we will win away at Arsenal but then after filling everyone full of hope lose at home to Reading the week after.
With it being so close to the start if the season now, it's not out of the question to think that any signing that nufc and safc make now won't even be involved at the weekend.
Jarra is right. Suppose we signed Defoe or Fletcher today. By the time they moved up here and started training with the rest of the lads it would be too late for anything other than a cameo on Saturday. The longer its left then the more into the season we get and the longer it will be until any new signing fits in. I thought I'd read in some gossip column or forum that we would be trying to sign players early precisely to give them time to fit in. We can probably get by with our defence and midfield by giving any new signing time to settle but our glaring need for two or three top strikers (look at the friendly results, more importantly, the goals scored) means time is very much against us now. I expect a couple of top strikers but wish they wouldn't leave it so late.
