Always nice watching City win, even if the atmosphere was under all critic, besides the Rotherhams getting alive now and then.
Thought we played decent. Showed some promising stuff, even though the opponents are not of the highest class, they're still a decent lower league team.
I got fascinated by how bad Proschwitz timed everything with his head, but how well he at the same time could handle his chest/feet at times.
Think he will come good when he gets into it. I almost got more frustrated by Matty who was all over the place being fairly sloppy. Looked heavy.
Stewart got better and better as the match proceeded. I presume that their defender tired, which he could take advantage of, but when he finally makes the effort his man, he usually takes it. And he should have made us all go home way earlier by scoring in the 85th minute. Absolute shocker that he missed it. I missed my train because of if having to grab a taxi! ^-^

Back four look solid. I liked how aggressive Faye was towards his attackers, whiles Chester handled everything calmly as usual.
Nothing they could do to prevent the goal. Stunning volley.
Koren is a waste on the wing.
    McLean looked superb.
Amos needs to work on his foot work. Looked shaky.

All in all, a decent game and we won! All that matters in the end of the day. Always room to make improvements this early on in the season.
Got a low quality clip of their penalty miss :)

That's actually a bad thing, us thinking he's been lacking confidence is what's been keeping us calm after some pretty average pre-season performances! ;)

I thought Stewart was MotM yesterday, the goal was all down to him doing what he does best and running at the byline on the left, McLean just had to tap it home, he hit the bar with a decent effort, he put one on a plate for Koren after beating three men and Koren buggered it up and he also nearly scored another one straight after the goal. That was obviously our best XI under the circumstances so it was disappointing that we didn't score more, especially when we had so much possession and in good areas but had exactly the same issue as last season in turning good positions into chances and chances into goals. I always say it but I really can't see what anyone's problem is with Cairney. He has to be in the team for me, he moves the ball better than anyone and it isn't just about creating chances with him but just keeping everything ticking over and he does it brilliantly well. He just seems to take little touches and passes in between opposition players that no one else can, I really can't understand why people don't like him.

Proschwitz looks a little disappointing so far, but he looks to have a very good touch and shot, he just needs to be a bit sharper which will come in time. The only worrying thing is that he seems far too weak to win many headers. When he does win them they go very well but he gets shrugged off very easily for a target man. Fryatt once yesterday took a quick snapshot and although it was blocked it could have been dangerous. He needs to do that more often instead of all this messing about with it as his feet, yesterday was one of his worst for refusing to shoot when Koren put him through in the second half and he just waited and waited and waited until he was tackled, it's like he really doesn't want to score when he does that. I found it worrying that we won so few headers at both ends yesterday.

The thing I really can't get my head around is if our penalties were all so good why can't we hit a bloody barn door in open play?

He always has this bloody confidence problem. He's a really good penalty taker too so I don't understand why he won't shoot from open play.

Were we watching the same game? I thought he was back at his best yesterday. He missed on chance which is the one thing I can relate to in that post, it was a great ball from Cairney but he went for the corner and missed. I'd much rather see that than other players who just go straight down the middle and don't shoot at all. We all know who.

Their fans were good in terms of support but what the **** was their problem? They were moaning about every single little decision, it was like they expected not to concede a free kick all game and got more and more enraged every time one of thir players' fouls was pulled up. A couple of times they had a point when the ref gave us a typical defensive decision in our box but some of it was just mental. The 'penalty' they wanted in extra time was embarrassing.

Now now Erik, play nice <laugh>

I happen to half-agree with ISTPLT, I wouldn't say he was at his best but he looked far better. If only he drilled crosses more often - those things are lethal. Shame his floated cross are total ****e.

I did admit that his crossing had improved, but how can any of you say you aren't becoming infuriated with his inability to beat a man, or his lack of goalscoring ability? How many goals has he scored for us in the past 18+ months? One? Maybe two? And he's a winger FFS!

I am getting really worried about Fryatt. He looks a broken man. He is massively out of shape at the moment. Personally I would start Nick P with Mclean for the Brighton match.

I'm a bit worried by Bruce's comments about their potential partnership. I know he's an experienced manager and he's not an idiot but for me he singled those two out far too much. Hopefully he won't continue the Pearson/Barmby tradition of mistakenly playing Fryatt regardless of form.

I realise he's scored far more than anyone else but you get my point. I believe there was a period last season where he failed to score in something like 10 consecutive games. And yet Simmo rarely even got a place on the bench.

he plays on the wrong side, thats why he never beats a man and puts in a decent cross, i noticed in the norwich friendly he was down the left again with aluko down the right and constantly cutting in, why the hell a left footer down the left and a right footer down the right has gone out of fashion i dont know but i find it infuriating.., yes they can cut inside and shoot but a wingers main job is to get the ball in the mixer..

Problem there is DJ that Aluko can really contribute to goals so he's probably better off on the right... But so is Stewart for the reasons you given.

Screw it, let's get two new left wingers <cheers>

Aluko vs Stewart? Apples and oranges, my friends, and I can tell you for nothing that I'd much rather have the delectable Golden Delicious that is Sone Aluko than the manky Satsuma that is Cameron Stewart.

Rotherham were far more up for it than us, you could see they were here to win, we were just there to up our fitness and knock it about.

Odejayi and Pringle caused us all sorts of problems. I'd be surprised if Rotherham aren't up there at the end of the season in their league.

Even though we didn't play very well, we created some great chances, the main problem being we were soo wasteful!!!

I thought McLean changed the game - not just for his goal, but because before he came on, we were lumping balls forward that nobody was able to get their head to, McLean came on and flicked every ball on towards Fryatt and Proschwitz, which kept the ball in their half. It also allowed Koren to move into the middle of the park and get on the ball more.

I think Big Nick will come good eventually, but I think it's going to take him some time to settle in... he was way off the pace for most of the game. He seemed way too slow to react to anything and the game was actually bypassing him. It wasn't until late in the second half he actually got into the game, other than his miss-hit in the first half.

The most worrying thing was how wasteful in basic goal-scoring opportunities we were, the best thing was that Faye looked solid, Stewart looked a little more like his former self, Dudgeon looks to have bulked up a bit and played well (though was caught out of position once or twice), McLean looks ready to be more productive this season and Chester is still 100% top class.

What i so of Proschwitz was decent with the ball at his feet, held the ball up well, worked hard but for his size a poor header and not physical enough, lets hope he gets stuck in where it hurts once the season starts because he will come up against much better defenders than Rotherham had, Faye was very calm with the ball, read the game well but Chester will have to cover his lack of pace, The goalkeeper Amos did ok but was a little hesitant at times. Has for Stewart he looked better again when he ran at there defence so lets hope it has lifted his confidence, Aluko should come back in on the wing leaving Koren to come back into the middle but i do think we could do with a big dominant midfielder who can tackle and drive the team on to go with him. Has for the rest it was pretty much the same has last season and at the end of the day i know it was only a minor cup game in an empty stadium but if i was the manager i would be disappointed that with a full strength side against a Div 2 side we have not dominated the game but at least we won and lets hope we improve against better opposition.
