I guess the issue is that the premier league is full of the 'best players around'. I can see why people are concerned about our strength in depth.
You won't find a player as good as Di Natale outside of Chelsea, United and City. Not counting Van Persie for obvious reasons.
Agree. He has scored so many goals for Udinese and doesn´t have the quality around him that teams like Chelsea, United and City have. He is the reason why Udinese are one of the best teams in Italy.
A week away from the start of the season and we have 2 CB's and aguably midfield and pace deficiencies......as long as the "big injuries" and suspension game don't come into play we'll be fine!!
Well whatever we do before the City game won't improve our chances much. If we've not signed a new CB before Wigan I'll definitely be concerned (granted I'm in the apparent minority that don't hate Fonte) and if we haven't signed a new CB and a new winger before September I'll be angry about it. But for now? Call me indifferent.
Do you realise the sooner we sign players, the quicker they settle in, the quicker they can make a difference?
I'd rather wait and get the right players than rush and overspend. Like I said earlier, would you rather sign someone tomorrow for £10m or sign a similar, arguably better player the day before the Wigan game for £6m?
If that £4M means they settle in that game quicker and score a goal that keeps us up, then I'd rather spend it, but yes I see your point.
I think the point hes making is that for them to be available for the Wigan game they need to be signed pretty soon as they take settling in time before they play. If they are signed the day before Wigan they wont play against Wigan. I agree we shouldnt overspend, but i think we're all in agreement that we want to not overspend soon
Rest assured if we've not secured at least a CB and a winger by the time the window closes I'll certainly not be happy at all. But for now I just don't feel the need to stress about it.
I got the point he was making about having time to settle in. My counterpoint was I'd rather have a player not completely settled for the Wigan game but will offer more for less through the other 36, than I would having someone cost significantly more for the sake of being slightly more settled for one or two games. Obviously, ideally we'll unveil a host of brilliant players at the full time whistle tonight, I'm getting a bit restless with the lack of news but I'm calm for the most part, for now anyway
Well 4-0 isn't really a surprising scoreline considering Udinese's quality, we beat teams 4-0 last season, teams were thrashed far heavier than that in the premier league last season.
Just judging by the twitter feed (easily enough to form a conclusive opinion, obviously) it seems it was more Southampton 0-4 Di Natale. I'm fine with that.
Wigan is one game. As important as it is (one assumes they'll be a direct rival this coming season), it is only one game. So long as an extra body or two are onboard before the window shuts, then Nigel and Nicola can take as long as they want this month imo. The sooner, the better of course. But if it takes them an extra day, an extra week, then fine.
