I know it's only a league one side, but we played some Immense football.

Amalfitano has been the most exciting prospect since pre-season started for me, and the way he links up with all our players is excellent.

Shola Ameobi looks ****ing excellent. His work rate, his passing, his movement all look top class. His assist for Marv was a fantastic pass.

I love the way the team is starting to move and make space for each other.

Gosling is starting to look good. The one thing I noticed about him, even when he was playing ****, was his positioning and runs into the box and find space.

    Superb stuff!

Obertan looks canny down the center, and his shooting is pretty good.

Whoopee first time l have seen any highlights and that was great.
Granted it is a lower division team, but as quite rightly pointed out, it,s not so much about the opposition as the way we are coming together as a team, including the new guys, all of whom look sharp and up for the challenge.
Coming back from injury and a long lay-off Marv will be like a new signing, the jury is still out for me where Obertan is concerned, always looks a bit uncertain, and never commits fully in a tackle. I for one hope he comes good and proves me wrong in my assessment that he is not quite good enough.
Really like the look of Amalfitano and Biggi even though it is early days for them.
Will miss the game against the Spuds as out of the country, but if we come out of the starting blocks with some fire in the belly, then we should put a marker down for the rest of the season.

We are just toying with them, let them score a few and once lulled into a sense of false security we will pounce on them without mercy lol.

And against a Championship team we lost 4-1. Although we were missing our front 4 from last season. Pre-season is just funny like that and we won't know until the season starts how well we'll play. In Pardew i thrust though.

Seriously grow some ****ing balls you little women. <doh>

We've beaten better sides so far with a weakened side. It happens.

So it's ok to get excited about a win over a League 1 team (granted we did play good football) but it's not ok to be slightly concerned that we conceded 4 goals with our strongest back five against a Championship side???

I don't really give a **** about the score in a friendly game. I was excited about the performance, the way we played, the quality different players brought to the game.

I also got excited about more and more players in our squad starting to shine, so we can rely on players that are behind our strongest to perform and play a big part in our season. :p

I'm not saying friendlies don't mean anything, but the best thing is not to panic. Don't focus on the scoreline.

We played with a pretty much full strength defence vs Leeds, which, I think, was the last friendly before the start of last season, and we lost 3-2.

That's just it though, the performance was terrible in the first half, and the last goal was Sunday league defending. So surely if it's ok to get excited about a good performance in a friendly it must be equally ok to be concerned with a poor performance?

Anyone seen much of Adam Campbell? I know he was player of the tournament in with the youth team this summer, he looked really lively and incredibly pacey from the highlights on NUFC TV, similar style to a young Michael Owen (when he used to be quality, e.g World Cup 98').

Not really, because we always have **** games pre-season, and a **** season has never followed. However, we rarely play so well or show so much promise in pre-season, so that's why.
