Welcome to the Match Thread! Watford vs Wycombe Wanderers League Cup First Round Vicarage Road 11th August 2012, Kick-off 3pm. Early team news: Watford Despite eight new signings so far, there will be a familiar look to the Hornets, with many of the new signings considered unlikely to play. Manuel Almunia will be hoping to make his competitive debut in goal, while former chairboy Ikechi Anya is also in contention. The Hornets have experimented with several formations in pre-season, including 3-4-1-2 against Gillingham, but with a predominantly British pool of players to choose from I suspect we will go for a (slightly) more familiar 4-3-3. Wycombe The likes of Nikki Bull are talking about this game as an extension of pre-season, but with ex-Watford players such as Joel Grant and Matthew Spring to choose from, I expect that we will see a determined performance. It's unclear how Wycombe will line up, but a lot of Chairboys fans that I have seen seem to want to try 4-3-3. More to follow...
nice one NNW! thank you. Can't wait for this, it'll be interesting to see who plays and how we line up...i just can't wait to get this season underway!
nikki and waddock have both refered to this as another pre-season friendly, but then again the BFP end to twist words a fair bit!!! i personally would like to see wycombe in a 4-5-1 with the wingers pushing on into a 4-3-3 when we attack. looking forward to the game though, new ground for me and hopefully the chairboys will play competatively and get a result!
Cheers NNW and good afternoon H. Hopefully we can get off to a good start but if our pre-season matches are anything to go by I don't think you have much to worry about. However, Wycombe are a very unpredictable team and it much depends on which team turns up and how much they want it. Wouldn't have a clue if asked to predict the outcome. Hope it's an entertaining match for all those able to attend.
Hi Ron ...i think we can safely say we have no idea about our team, and how we'll play, so i'm guessing it's anybody's guess what might happen! Let's hope for a good game, with the right result ... COYH!
Jon Marks‏@jonmarks72 Here's a stat for you! The last time #watfordfc won a league cup tie at home was Sept '08 v West Ham, who were managed by...Gianfranco Zola!

Well nothing really surprising there, considering the amount of new recruits I cannot imagine he would put out a weak team as it GZ's first competetive game! We shall just have to wait and see
I can't believe that just sitting in the shade listening to football it could be so hot. Currently 37C here.
