Anyone else gonna think about heading down to Greece for the game?

I've been searching around for flights, Newcastle don't fly to Athens, which is the closest Airport to Atromitos... how ****ing convenient!

Anyone got any info or advice?

The Stadium is only around 10k, and being up close and personal with greek fans...

This tie seems like one we should sail past, but we should be careful. However, seeing as they're not a quality side, it will be good for our premier league campaign, seeing as we could rest a lot of key players.

    I'd play -

    ------------Shola(c)--------------

    Sammy------HBA--------Obertan

    -------Bigi-------Abeid----------

    Raylor----Tav--Willo------Perch

    ------------Harper---------------

    Subs -

    Elliot
    Ba
    C.Good
    Amalfitano
    Saylor

This will give most of the players we're likely to play vs Spurs a rest, a couple on the bench if we have a bit of a disaster. A couple of away goals should set us up for the 2nd tie.

Saylor in there if we want to close the game out, Ba if we need a late goal or something. Good there for some experience, Amal there for some flair ect.

It might be tough, and I personally think Pards will play a slightly weaker side than that.

I see it being a bit of a squeeky bum time, but I think the home tie at SJP will see us get through on Agg.

Scraping through the first tie would be good enough for me, with no injuries, but that's the sort of team I'd like to see, it should be enough to get us through, but I don't like taking chances.

If we don't win, we go out straight away, and get humiliated. Simple as.

    I think he'll play:

    ----------Ba-----------
    Marv--Amalfitano--Ober
    -----Bigi-----Raylor-----
    Perch--Colo--Good--Tav
    ----------Krul---------

And btw, its Atromitos, you missed the r and put an extra i...

They look like a right raggie bunch. I would say two changes to your team Taylor for Williamson as I'm not convinced that Taylor will start the first two games and Marveaux instead of Ben Arfa.

We'll be playing Colo vs Spurs. Playing him again in Euro and then again a few days later vs Chelsea... :S

We really could use another CB. I hope we get one in.

Or else we'll just have to pray Curtis good turns out to be class.

I'm basing my team on the team I'd put out vs Spurs. We'll get a better idea of the exact team after the Spurs game I reckon.

But It would be nice to hear what sort of sides people would put out in Europa League.

I basically have my 2 match plan in my head.

It's going to be a tough start. Two Euro Legs and two important PL matches.

Took me 3 flights last time I went to Athens for a cruise, had to go to Heathrow then Frankfurt. Absolute nightmare.

Might well head to this one with a couple of days in Athens too, great city.

I'd agree, don't think Saylor will be ready for spurs, play him in this game instead. It's important not to underestimate teams, despite how weak they may seem.

That's what I said in the thread, however Willo and Perch have played together before, and have proven they can play.

Just like Saylor and Colo, despite not being of the same quality, Willo and Perch compliment each other. Perch is quick, has good reactions and can tackle with precision. Willo is big, effective in the air, and is solid enough in most games.

Saylor had to make a quick comeback for the last 3 games of the 2010/11 season, and he did fine.

I think he'll be ready for Spurs. Last I read, Saylor was raring to get the season started.

I'm up for going If I can get hold of tickets that is ! :)

Anyone located a decent way of getting there !? Quick look through flights on the 2 possible days from where I live aren't too appealing haha

Really hoping he plays a few of our youngsters, would like to see midfield trio of bigi, mehdi and amifilatano high hopes for all three in this tournament

Just because he's raring for it, doesn't mean it'll be best for him. Rather ease him into highly competitive games rather than re injure himself. I think Willo will start the first 2 PL games, not that I wouldn't like to see Saylor starting, but I think Willo will.

You could fly from Edinburgh but they only fly Thursdays and Sundays (return flights as well) so you would be stuck there for 4 days.

London gatwick is the next one, they fly most days.

    outward
    Thursday 23rd 9:05 AM land 14:45 £122.99

    inbound

    Friday 24th depart 14:50 arrive 16:40 £300

not sure why it takes 6 hours to get there and only 2 hours on the way back, but meh, thats what i found anyway.

Time differences. 4 Hour flight with a 2 hour difference, flying there the flight takes 4 hours and you are 2 hours later so technically 6 hours, coming home flight is 4 hours but you "go back in time" 2 hours.

never thought of that, i should have done as i have been to America before, but it never crossed my mind with this lol

for the return is about £430 + your flight/bus/car down to gatwick, not a cheap break by any means.

    Ease him in? Howay man!

He's been playing, training and fit nearly all pre-season, he's played games, he's looked solid.

If he'd just regained his fitness recently, I'd agree, but he's been preparing all summer, and we need our best players vs Spurs.

He says he's 100% fit and ready in this interview - http://www.hartlepoolmail.co.uk/spo...taylor-fit-and-ready-for-new-season-1-4807286

So he's not just raring to go, he's ready physically, and has looked so.

At the end of the day, none of our players have played a premier league game for months, so Saylor will be as ready as anyone else.

If he manages 90 against Cardiff, then he'll probably start at Spurs. If Pards doesn't think he's ready for 90 against Cardiff, then I doubt he'd be willing to go with him for Spurs. All of the other players in contention for starting have managed at least one 90 minute game this pre season, so that's what I'm basing my opinion on.

Just because Saylor was taken off before 90 minutes in each of his games, doesn't mean it's because he wasn't fit enough. We rotated the team around and gave everyone a chance, so could have been the reason why.

No one knows if he's ready more than himself. Only he knows how he feels, and I don't think he'd lie about his fitness to play an important game, knowing he could cost us.

But you make a good point with the Cardiff game. However, I don't think that just because he gets subbed, that means he's not fit enough.

Yeah, but the reason some players play the full game is in order to restore the fitness from missing the summer. That's what pre season is for. Unless he's got a full 90m game under his belt, I don't know whether or not he'll manage to last 90 in a full paced premier league game.

As for him feeling his best, I'd rather see what the medical staff think. They're the experts on this. Just because he doesn't feel the injury, doesn't mean there's no more risk of it returning. We'll see what happens anyway. Go with whatever Pard's judgement is.
