He really does give some very candid comments to the media. Following last season's (paraphrasing) "Some things were happening that I really dont want to go in to" we now have: "At times it was really frustrating last year. I would get the chances at times but often it was waiting, and waiting and waiting. That's something we could have worked on" - Translation - "we all knew what the problem was but the manager did absolutely knack all about it". I like it as a fan, it's better than the media trained politically correct standard answers.
He obviously didn't like playing as a lone striker, but that doesn't mean he didn't like Nick, a bit naff to suggest it does really.
I was going to say, Barmby said things in the press in late December when asked whether he was going to buy another striker, "I have full confidence in Matt, I believe he'll score the goals we need. He's a brilliant striker and we can rely on him". So to say that Fryatt didn't like him would be weird considering Barmby had only respect and praise to give him.
Fair play to Matty Fryatt, and I take your point, but it's still a halfway house really, isn't it? What's to stop him from simply coming out and stating the plain truth as he sees it - if that's the way he really feels. No one ever seems to do that these days and there is absolutely no reason why they shouldn't. It's an opinion - and nothing more than that. He would get my respect for that, for sure. The games I saw under Barmby last season were increasingly frustrating to watch, so I can barely imagine what it must have been like for Fryatt to play in them as a striker. It was clear that Barmby thought we should play like Barcelona at best, and Arsenal at worst. And all the time the rest of us were sitting there thinking why can't we just get the f*****g ball into the box?
To clarify I did mean Nick as a manager, not personally. And this is only my opinion based on what Matt has said publicly, there's no FACT in this. I dont know Matty and dont know what he thinks, it's the way I am interpreting his comments and hence I said "I get the feeling". I dont see what's "naff" about that.
I prefer Barmby as a person but as a manager he was far to stubborn, I don't think we'd have got anywhere if we still had him this season.
Then perhaps your title should have been 'didn't like Nick's system', rather than 'didn't like Nick', which is personal. I would say exactly the same to anyone to who posted that Koren didn't like Nigel, he obviously didn't like playing out wide and made no secret of it, but it doesn't mean he didn't like Pearson.
Actually I bumped into Koren in pound land car park once, and he told me he didn't like Nigel at all. Also mrs Koren said she'll never live in Leicester so nothing to worry about there.
Ok, you have the power. Please change the header to: 'I really get the feeling, judging by Matty's comments to the assembled media, that he believes the former regime were failing to get the best from the accumulated talents of the squad at their disposal through a blinkered approach and an apparent lack of willingness to adapt when results werent forthcoming and he seems to be suggesting that perhaps we are now better placed with a manager willing to adopt a more flexible philosophy in order to achieve the desired outcome'
Why the hell should you have to change just because OLM decides that your opinion being different to his means that yours is wrong. I for one am sick and tired of OLM shoving his love for Barmby down our throats, he is supposed to be a moderator snd should defend your right to your opinions not enforce his will on others that do not agree with his.
I'm a poster like everyone else, it sounds like you think I shouldn't be able to give my opinion just because I happen to be a moderator. Hypocrite.
Wind your neck in. OLM has a point, I read the thread title the exact same way only to find that there's no suggestion that Matty didnt like Nick, he just wasnt keen on the system.
I wasnt bothered to be honest, but you DO stick up for Nick a hell of a lot. Like you say though, you're entitled to - I back Nigel a lot and think we've gone backwards a huge amount since he left.
Well yeah, but lets not forget OLM accused me of being 'naff' when I gave my opinion on this very thread.
That seems to getting like that, but if you dare question it him and his cronies come out of the woodwork and are on the attack
