A few years back I put my one and only post, stating that I thought post big Jason leaving us we should push Pratley up front as a target man, big lad, high energy, not bad finisher etc. Anyway it was roundly slated as a theory and its taken me this time to return. The situtation we have we Joe is not dissimilar to that which Man U were in with Ronaldo (only difference maybe is that Joe is that little bit better). Fergie, accepted he was going to go, so did a deal with him to get an extra season out of him and go with his blessing the following summer. Everyone was quids in. Now take our situation. We need one more season to land the big bucks next year, and we assume this is more likely with Joe in our team. From Joe's perspective he gets an extra year in Swansea to a) see if Brendan survives that long b) he has his kid in Swansea with his family around. Then he goes and he leaves amicably c) One more big season and one of the big clubs may come in for him. Few Man U fans seem to begrudge Ronaldo, would we Joe. PS I still think I was right about Pratley
Yes,alot have said the same mate Nobody will begrudge Joe anything if he left now, next season or the season after that.
You could well be right milkman, though I don't remember your previous theory, but my view is that Joe Allen will stay, I have always maintained that through all this silly season, and nothing has made me think otherwise! Joe staying another season for a bigger and better club than Liverpool, surely must be the way forward for him, and I can't see Liverpool paying our asking price anyway............
Although I agree with what should happen I think it will look a little different from joes perspective. Ronaldo was an undoubable talent, everyone knew he was one of the best in the world so a move would come easy for him. Joe only has 1 season under his belt in the prem and he played very well. What may go through his head that if we were to get relegated and he didn't play so well the following season then would that big money move to a big club still be available to him? Also if Brendan does get the sack then surely that would hinder his chances of playing for a big club, not favour them.
I might have agreed with you swans-m before the Olympics, but even if we get relegated, he must be confident the way he compared to Cleverley, Ramsay etc he'll get picked up
careful .... thats 2 posts ...this forum is worse than heroin! welcome to the forum fella, don't be afraid to contribute. Inside track on the whole saga...I was speaking to someone who knows things and a little bird told him "tweet tweet". We should be more the wiser in 24 to 48 hours!
You know it's true "He talks with the animals...." Dai's in demand with his special contacts, a nice business he has running >>> http://www.thebirdwhisperer.com/
Good post, I think the same. If Joe develops under ML then maybe in a years time one of the really big boys may well come in for him and no disrespect meant but Liverpool are no longer a big team.
If I was a manager , & had Pratley , I'd put him in the middle of the pitch & turn him lose at his own will .
It would be fantastic in a selfish way if joe would stay but the temptation is too much for him. he has wanted to join liverpool since kenny was in charge and he would be a fool not to jump at the chance of playing for them, He wont get the rewards staying with us that he will get with them and he will if not already have joined them...Its a big gamble if he stays because if we get relegated what happens then, his value will plummet like a stone and liverpool will no longer be interested as they will have got a replacement in his place....I dont think its a no brainier what he should do before liverpool lose all interest....good luck to him....
think the only thing would be money, am sure the players have lost all respect for BR unless he hinted privately at a few, as mentioned liverpool are no longer the club they were, i know which club i would rather play for and tbh how much money does one really need to live comfortably
I would join liverpool for the money ...any sane person would if he had the choice. Its easy for us sitting behind our computers to say we wouldn't and we would be liars....
It doesnt happen very often but I agree with Dai on this. My 'sauce' says Liverpool are prepared to offer a 5 year deal thats worth £20mil+ to Joe. That sort of money will set him and his soon to be family up for life so very hard to turn down.
Counting his salary that's a total outlay of £35 million. If Joe doesn't settle in and start producing immediately after that sort of investment, I can see the natives getting pretty restless. That would be the two of them under the cosh.
Come on Dilli - Liverpool are still a huge club - their name is global, there's no denying it. I think we really mean that Liverpool are no longer a successful club ( in terms of winning/challenging for titles etc) rather than no longer a big club. I'd rather see Joe move to Man United if he goes anywhere though - at least he will be in with a chance of winning the title then.
Well now Liverpool have offered £15 million we will find out if there really is a release clause as no one has catagorically said there is! If it is true then I could see a bigger club coming in and gazumping Liverpool by offering more £ in the contract and decent European football. Dont know why but I could see him at Man U or Arsenal
Good call Jackdan, maybe the gunners like the idea of teaming him up with Ramsay a la team GB ? Would certainly be good for Wales if it happened.
