Adam Johnson - Just don't see him as that good. So predictable as a player and thinks he's a lot better than he actually is. Similar ability to Jarvis or Etherington

Pepe Reina - Was decent a few years back but now he makes loads of clangers and is always no matter how many he has made the game before etc seen as a rare lapse of conentration for him

Ryan Giggs since his move to cm - He is a **** cm. Doesn't do his defensive duties properly and isn't a great passer of the ball like some would have you believe. He is talked about so highly now because of his longevity more than his actual ability in the position he's played for what 4 years now?

I'd be happy to go along with Welbeck if people actually rate him that highly. He's not in the same league as Hernandez in terms of being a match winning striker.

Ultimately though, he's not actually rated that highly as far as I'm aware especially not by United fans.

Zlatan imo is the most overrated player on the planet... He takes 10 chances to score a goal..

No Theo was a runner not a footballer. The Ox has a different level of technical ability and also a much better footballing brain. I have no fears on him, he will be a top player.

Well, it kind of is. You said his link up play is awful... There's an example of good link up play... He plays it simple and links up well with Rooney.. It's one of the reasons Hernandez is benched these days. Whether or not he links up with anyone in an England shirt, I don't care.. He has a great understanding with his strike partner.

    Like most players..

I'm not sure about "massively"... Who even rates him that highly?

And can I ask.... Are you jugding him from MOTD highlights, or his performances for England?
Or do you actually watch every full United match?

He's obviously not got "grade-A" link-up qualities... But to say it's awful... I just don't agree.

Welbeck's link up play isn't awful. He's certainly not over rated. He's not that great though.

I'd say most people wonder how he's an England regular, is playing for United week in week out... And now earning £75k a week...

He's a decent youngster with potential, in my opinion... Andy Cole was never really rated (15 England caps) but what an impact he had.. Wellbeck can (possibly) have a similar impact. Andy Cole and Dwight Yorke knew each other's game so well.

Now... Sturridge was overrated.. People are starting to realise he's not all that now though.

Both Hernandez and Welbeck are just good prospects at this stage. They are rated about right for me. Welbeck has some excellent attributes but he is still very raw. Hernandez can clearly finish and times his runs very well. But again he is very raw and has plenty to learn and there is no doubt he was disappointing last year.

And videos are not conclusive evidence of someones link up play or any other attribute for that matter. I could show loads of clips of Shola Ameobi looking very good with great link up play. I could also show you loads of clips where he looks like a donkey and his link up play is non existent. Judging people from videos is how you end up buying Milton Nunez or George Weahs mate!<laugh>

I'm hardly using the video to claim Wellbeck as a "world beater" am I?
Just that his link up play isn't "awful"
When somebody is "awful" I wouldn't expect any examples... Nothing wrong with "His link up play isn't the best" or "Isn't good"...
but to call it "awful" is another thing.

Very few football fans seem to rate Welbeck "massively".. So while he's not a great player, I don't think he's overrated..

He's just rated by the people who really matter to his career: His team-mates, coaches etc.

I think his link up play is pretty decent to be honest. But a video is not evidence for the reasons above. I watched some youtube clips of Albert Luque. He looked like a world beater. When he got here he looked like he'd necked 20 cans of wife beater before each time he played.

    I know what you're saying...
Youtube videos are rubbish "evidence"... They make anyone look like Messi.

But I just wanted a quick way to challenge the "his link up is awful" argument...
Because having watched him play more than enough times, it isn't.

Neymar - Thinks he's a one man team, don't think the kid would last a minuet in the Premiership with people like Tiote, De Jong, Karl Henry etc

Barry - Have no idea how he makes England squad after England squad? Rather play with 10 men

Sturridge - Gone from Chelsea to City to Chelsea possibly back to City and all he will ever be is a squad player. Will never be a world beater

He loses the ball a lot during matches, either because of his woeful ball control or very poor dribbling. If he hasn't got the ball he can't link up, can he? Sure, he has his moments where he looks good which is why everyone has high hopes but as it stands he is massively overrated. You've even said yourself, he is a regular in the Man United and England team earning an inflated wage packet, it's beyond comprehension.

And using the Welbeck is good at link up play, that's why Javier "i'm offside all of the time" Hernandez is benched as a reason hardly carries much weight.

I obviosuly haven't watched him as much as some Man United fans but I watch every match shown on TV and some that aren't, regardless of whether it's NUFC playing. I've watched Welbeck plenty of times.

Well we'll have to agree to disagree... I don't believe his ball control or dribbling are "woeful".

No, I said most people wonder how plays for United every week and plays for England... So how this equals them overrating him "massively", I'm not sure... The general consensus is that he's not good enough for United.

I, personally, think he's able to play for United, because he has a very good understanding with Rooney. He reminds me slightly of Andy Cole. He has great confidence for his age, and with more composure in front of goal, he could be aiming to score 15 league goals a season.

I don't really know who exactly has been overrating Welbeck massively...
