Written down swearing doesn't really bother me when it's in context but I really hate swearing in public for the sake of it. I told some lads off at the match once for using the c word every other breath and they mumbled on about 'what does she expect, it's a football match' blah blah. Well I expect people to have respect for others, and to understand freedom of speech is not freedom to say whatever you like whenever you like, without consideration for anyone else. I have been going to matches since 1982 and the men who used to sit around me in the old Clock Stand (I know in with the old guys!) would hardly ever swear. It has got so much worse, but it has in everyday life too I guess.
I guess you don't but I am not posting pics either way. I have mentioned I did a degree in psychology so maybe I am just messing with your heads!!!
Couldn't agree with you more. If their were ladies around us me and my mates always wound our necks in. Didn't fully stop mind, especially when the ref was involved. But then the ladies weren't averse to shouting abuse. As this is a confessional I may as well admit it................. I'm GAY! Well I haven't been this happy for some time.
That last line threw me, are we talking jolly 1930s gentleman gay, or George Michael discography gay?
There was a lad I volunteered with in Uganda last summer who was gay. Never would've guessed it, even after speaking to him - big Burnley lad who's favourite things were real ale, Burnley FC and steak pies. Suppose it just goes to show that stereotypes mean nothing (Kylie Minogue aside).
Where did you volunteer? My daughter went out last year too, and is now living and working in Kampala. She loves the nightlife and party lifestyle Me and her dad try not to worry too much
Hi - yes I had guessed, but there again I am another of the superior (well we've gotta believe it) sex. x
I was in Kampala for a little while but mostly in Masaka (a region around 2 hours from Kampala) Was actually with a Mackem fan (from Peterlee) and had to quickly check on facebook to see if she was back out there again...Aye they love their partying the Ugandans, starts the minute you finish work on a friday and stops when you fall asleep on the Sunday night, I struggled to keep up! What was/is it she's doing?
Going back to the OP, I have to say that the now three female posters that I now know of, are also ones whose posts I have a lot of time and respect for, regardless of their sex/gender. Keep up the good work...
I don't think she got to know anyone from the North East as she would have mentioned it I am sure. She was in Kampala and Nansana with ICYE, working on an HIV/AIDS awareness and women's microbusiness project. She loved it and went back out again after Christmas. She found work at a hotel temporarily to live on, while she tried to get an NGO job. She now has a better job with a PR Agency who do work for Health companies, as well as the government, on HIV prevention and other health awareness issues. Yes, the Ugandans certainly know how to party, but so does she! Thankfully she is also quite sensible (I think... I hope....!) but I am really grateful for the internet that allows me to keep in touch with her. What were you doing? Do you think you might go back?
I was with a really small British NGO called READ International who basically transport books from schools in the UK to Uganda and Tanzania and distribute around different regions as well as doing a small amount of teaching and refurbishing a library. I was there for 2 months but was given a Ugandan tribe family (Bossa) and made loads of friends out there. Would absolutely love to go back, but from a selfish point of view I want to do something in South America first!
