Completely. He should probably be in the Champions League team of the year but he's been average in the Premier League. These awards seem to go to whoever generates the most hype.

 

I know, that's what i mean. Pardew doesn't seem to be thinking about our defense.

 

I dont begrudge him leaving, I totally understand, and it was a very good career move (short term anyway). It's just the fact that the likes of Enrique and Nolan etc will have had offers which they turned down, as they knew they owed the club. Just wouldnt bring him back personally

 

Hasnt he been injured alot this season

 

Overall I'd say our attack needs improving more than our defense, we could probably last another year without any big changes there but next summer I'd expect us to buy a good CB unless we really step it up.

 

I remember being on my own that season when i was saying Bassong wasn't even our best defender! A certain Mr Jose Enrique was!

 

I'd say they are both evenly in need of attention to be honest. The amount of points we've chucked away and the amount of goals we've conceded because of our defense is frustrating.

I'm still hopeful Kadar can step up, would love next season to be his breakthrough year.

 

Tbh for most of the players we will never know if they left out of choice or if they were sold as they're wages were too high but for most of them I couldn't really blame them. Although some had no excuse, like Duff saying he was going to stay before immediately moving to Fulham and celebrating like mad when he scored against us.

Btw, does anyone here get the Mag, and if so did you get the final one of last season, where it had a person write a script of what he thought happened in the dressing room after the Villa game. Twas pretty funny.

I'd most certainly have Bassong back. Simmo Bassong Colo Enrique as our back 4 would certainly be as good as any challenging for Europe.

 

Probably go back to France or go to another foreign team can't see him coming back to us though.

I don't think the club did much in the way of persuading him to stay like...16x profit on him in the space of 8 months! Having said that, I don't really want us to go back in for him, he's a good player and CAN be great, but can also be shocking at times and will often try to play the ball when it's not the right option - just like Colo! I'd prefer a sensible, no nonsense defender, if we have to replace Willo, then someone in his style, just better!

 

Would have him back, but abandoned ship instead of staying. So no thanks.
