35 years old and has signed a 1 year deal. Allen has stated on the O/S that we beat a league 1 club to him, very good bit of business. Maybe past his best but if he is anything like the player he was 2 years ago for Charlton then we have a very good player. His experience will be great for the younger players and I know from having a friend who is a Charlton fan how much they loved him for his work rate and link up play.

Now this is a signing, proven goal scorer all over the shop including in the top tier.

Surely will want a big bang of a year to retire on as well.

Very pleased with this! Proven goal scorer! He has been training with MK Dons, so if we have got him over them I'm more than happy!

Happy that we have someone else, good that it is someone with a good record, hopefully he will still be good probably not as good as he used to be but he used to be a top player.

I'm glad to hear he has been training with a club. Means he should be at a good fitness level, not able to go to the game tonight, would be great if someone could give their thoughts on how he played after the game.

I'm less confident about this signing but am more than happy to be proven wrong. Turning down 6 months in League 1 and go for 12 months in League 2 makes me think he is perhaps only here for more money (can't imagine MK Dons were offering him double what we were a week). Good to see a new signing and if he is still as lethal as he was could really do well in this league. Expect to see Rowan Vine style performances, very little in the way of effort but outclassing defences to score.

Could be a shrewd bit of business - impressed! On paper a proven goalscorer and his advancing years means he may be able to teach the likes of Miller a thing or two.

Unfortunately can't make Watford tonight so let's see how he gets on.

He'll do a good job for you, and I'd put money on him scoring 10-15 goals this season.

On Saturday, your side looked almost there (although we'd have made Fort William look good) bar a nippy striker running hard at defenders - the young lad you had playing just behind the front line should benefit from him being there, too and he's going to be feeding off Kedwell's knockdowns all day.

Smart bit of business this, IMO. <ok>

I see Deon being a key player for us this season in our promotion push, he has the experience to help out the younger players but also the ability to score a fair amount of goals for us this season. Difficult to know who will be the starting pair out of Burton, Kedwell, Strevens and Birchall, whilst also remembering we have young Miller in reserve. Also very odd, with Charlie Lee playing upfront against Watford.

A good signing for MA. Would have preferred to have maybe got him a few years younger but he will definetly help the strikers on and off the pitch. I imagine that he and Birchall will be the main 2 this season which certainly looks promising.

Deon Burton was excellent about 15 years ago. He is 36 in a couple of weeks which makes him far older than the likes of Rod Wallace and Tommy Johnson who both showed brief flashes of their quality between confirming what a waste of money they were. Presumably Burton has been promised a reserved spot in the treatment room. 36 year old defenders can still be effective. 36 year old attackers do not score goals.

Absolute nonsense, there are players all over the planet older than Burton still playing the games at the highest level. Assuming that the player keeps himself in good condition age isn't an issue anymore. Just consider the likes of Zanetti (38), Nesta (36), Seedorf (36), Scholes (37) and Giggs (38) all playing regularly for top level teams.

But they are not strikers I here you say so I present my trump cards... Roger Milla, 40 at italia 90 and Del Piero (38) who was still banging in the goals for Juve last season

i'd add Lee Hughes to that list, also Allen stated he has the best body mass index at the club so it shows he's keeping himself in top condition.

from what i saw last night the guy is in good shape, strong in the air and showed show good touch and vision. all this despite being rather isolated up top of his own. i think he adds some needed football league experience to the front line as well as offering something inbetween what we already have in the little and large kinda strikers.

all in all i would not be suprised to see him start against bristol or bradford and would be shocked if he didnt make the bench atleast

Such a poor generalisation of the elder players. Johnson and Wallace had injury problems in the past whereas Burton, despite having a lot of previous clubs, has generally been a much more elusive goal-threat.

I'd take the likes of Lee Hughes and Jack Lester in my squad anyday of the week.
