http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/19048370 By Ben Smith BBC Sport Comments (121) Sunderland have made an improved £12m bid for Wolves striker Steven Fletcher. The offer, which is understood to be Sunderland's final and best bid, is under consideration. An initial bid of £10m was rejected out of hand but this offer is thought to be much closer to Wolves' valuation for the 25-year-old. Fletcher by numbers 7 - Steven Fletcher scored the most headed goals in the 2011-12 Premier League 12 - Premier League goals Fletcher scored for Wolves last season. Fletcher's former club Burnley will be due 15% of any profit Wolves make on a player they paid £7m for in 2010. Sunderland are short of attacking options following the departures of Asamoah Gyan and Nicklas Bendtner. Fulham and Stoke are also interested. Fletcher has two years remaining on his contract at Molineux, leaving Wolves chief executive Jez Moxey in a strong position to negotiate the best possible deal. O'Neill has made Fletcher, who scored 12 Premier League goals last season, his prime attacking target this summer. No Sunderland striker reached double figures in goals last season, with Bendtner and Stephane Sessegnon the top-scorers with eight, and O'Neill believes Fletcher, who scored seven headers last season, will give Sunderland's attack much-needed potency. Fletcher has suffered successive Premier League relegations with Burnley and Wolves during the past three seasons, but his goals-to-games ration is better than one in three.
If and it is a big if, he scores the goals, the price won't matter. One must speculate in order to accumulate!
Look at it this way; it's less than the amount we paid for Gyan, and his time here would have to go tits up pretty badly to match that spectacular failure!
Surely if Wolves want promotion, and the money that comes with it, they will want to hold onto their supposed prime asset?
Not for £12m! They can buy three very good championship players for that. If we sell Sess we'll only get about £15m.
The possibility of Fletcher joining us currently leaves me underwhelmed, i hope in due course with the passage of time to have my opinion changed!
I think the lad gets a bit of bad press because he's scottish. People look and think "well he can only be so good". But you have to judge him on his goals and performances. Both suggest he is a good PL striker. Being a baldy doesn't help either Zidane, Robben and Letchkov have proved it's no barrier!! Its like that ginger kid in the long jump, he's blown the myth that gingers are inferior out of the water
As long as he gets a few goals, I don't mind the fee. I liked Mick Mac's comments on the lad the other day, says 'under £15million and they have a bargain'. Considering Mick Mac got us Jon Stead for under £2million, I reckon he knows the way around a striker. Erm, actually... WE're DOOOOOOMED I TELLS YA!
According to the daily fail weve had a £12million bid accepted with add ons taking it to 15, wow if this is true thats alot of money
So you're paying 15 million for Fletcher, whereas we paid the same amount and got a spain international. I think you're being ripped off.
15 million for a guy who has been relegated twice! We are paying way over the odds if that is true. Perhaps MON can get the most out of him but for 15 million he's gonna have to squeeze him hard!
