Keyword being position. When played out of his prefered position he's pretty much useless, played right of the striker in a central position he's more often than not bordering unplayable. This is from Arsenal fans who have seen him more than any on this board.

If we buy him it's not as a winger but as a 'second striker'. As I said, we're well set in this department and can't see MH even contemplating this. Just another rubbish rumout imo.

Except Taarabts work rate far exceeds Arshavins, is more skillful and was incredibly unlucky not to score more hitting the post at least 5 times and it about 8 years younger on half the wages

Arshavins only goal was a gift from Vorm.

Im with bully-boy in this Arshavin case. This "hasbeen russian" never succeeded against anybody else than Liverpool when he was in Arsenal. Lazy and hugely overpaid. He was ok in euro 2012 but wouldn't touch him with 3 meter stick! Sign Samba and Defoe/Rhoades/Hooper and we can start the season.

I think we are are again getting ahead of ourselves. Arshavin was magnificent in the Euros and would certainly be one of our strongest players. Let's not keep bigging up Mackie as a winger, when we have Park who works harder Arshavin would be welcomed, in my opinion. Only on loan though, paying half his wages :p

    From straighttalkinggooners.com:

"According to reports in Russia (although I am not exactly sure how reliable this really is…), QPR are looking to take Andrey Arshavin on loan for the 2012/13 season. QPR have already signed Robert Green, Samba Diakate, Ryan Nelsen, Junior Hoilett, Andy Johnson and Park-Ji Sung this summer, but apparently Mark Hughes is not finished and see’s Arshavin as the perfect addition to his squad. Andrey’s contract expires at the end of the season (the same time as van Persie and Theo Walcott), but most Arsenal fans don’t seem to be that bothered.

Arshavin was sent out on loan for the second half of last season to his former club Zenit St Petersburg, who are now also in the mix. Arsenal fans were giving him a lot of stick for being lazy and it looked as if he had almost given up on playing at the Emirates. 11 appearances in the Russian Premier League, 3 goals and 4 assists later and Zenit are apparently looking to sign him back on permanent basis. There is also interest from Fulham, who are rumoured to be offering as little as £1 million for a player that we signed 3 years ago for £15m.

The suggestion is that QPR and Fulham are the most likely destinations for Andrey; Julia Arshavin is expecting their third child and the couple are keen to send all of their children to school in London. There are rumours circling on Twitter linking the Russian with a move to Leicester, although these can be tracked back to an account called @fakerumours and can be immediately discounted."

I think you sum it up rather well, as does Surrey Ranger when he asks, "Can he play centre back?"

    Samba, please.

    Forget the Euro's
He was playing for his country rather than the cash
Would rather him sign for Foolham

He's inconsistent and has rarely played a full 90 for Zenit or Arsenal (and Russia I think?). Not the sort of player we need at the moment. Center backs are the priority.

I like that. They sound nothing like them but for some reason remind me of Les Negresses Vertes. Attitude. Did you like Johnny Lydon's face beaming out at the Olympic Opening Ceremony? Made my evening.
