Went to the Brazil-Honduras game at Sid James Park yesterday. Great atmosphere although clearly a lot of the British audience had never been to a game of football before. Nice to hear drummers who actually had musical rythmn - nearly broke out into a samba along the stand myself! Thinking of trying the "clapping routine" when we have a free kick on the edge of the penalty area at the KC although not sure that it will take off. Mind you, I am in the South Stand so the kids may like it! Thought Honduras were a tad unlucky - Brazil good but a lot of diving and very whistle and card happy ref. All fans left the game in good spirits though. Also met two of the Tiger Nation on the way out. Top day all round.
I saw this and to be honest it has really miffed me. As a country we more than any other in the world look to blame someone else when we lose fair and square and if this had been the other way around it wouldve been front page news with headlines such as 'CHEAT' and 'WE DEMAND JUSTICE' yet cos it was us that bent the rules it has barely warranted a mention. It stinks to be honest.
Biggest shock of these Olympics so far is that Russia only has 4!! gold medals and Australia only has 1!!
Wish I could have got to an event, sounds like a great day out that. My mate works at Canary Wharf and lives nearby so he's been down to the Olympic Park and so on
Well done Luke. Personally, I thought he won all three rounds(just) and I thought the scoring was piss poor.
Totally agree and Im not biased - if I thought he'd lost I'd say so. For me the last round that he won by 2 was exactly as dominant as the previous 2 which they said he didnt win.
It's fair to say I would have been disgusted had the judges ruled Luke lost it, he won every round for me, particularly the last 2. But he got the win in the end so I'm satisfied, a shame that Christine Ohurougu couldn't get the gold this time in the 400m but a silver still a good result considering the competition.
If Campbell wins gold, and I don't wish to place excess pressure on the lad, but where will the golden postbox be?
What's the deal with Asafa Powell's injury? If it's bad it could play a big part in the 4x100 relay which Jamaica looked certs for.
Nowt wrong with the Scots, everyones entitled to their opinion of course. I might be bias being half Jock myself. Just read somewhere that if Yorkshire was a country we'd be level with the likes of Japan & Russia, around 11th place in the medals table above Australia. Fantastic stuff.
I see someone has been arrested for shouting abuse then throwing a bottle onto the track just before the start of the 100m final. Gatland is the only athlete to have come out and said that he was aware of the incident, but it didn't really distract him.
I would suggest that your definition of 'fair and square' is the cause of the problem here. Also we don't always just ignore it when it's us. When we played Ukraine at the Euros many in the media seemed really upset that we didn't concede a completely illegal goal.
The perfect example is Ronaldo getting Roonedy sent off. Rooney deserved to get sent off with thuggish, stupid, infantile behaviour but if you'd believed the media over here Ronaldo was dirty, cheating dago who should be banned from ever coming back to England. All because he winked.
