Hughes thrilled with Wright-Phillipsâ pre-season form for QPR The manager believes preparations for the new campaign could not have gone any better and is particularly impressed with the former England international QPR manager Mark Hughes feels Shaun Wright-Phillips is back to his best after impressing in pre-season for the Rs. The former Manchester City man has scored three goals ahead of the new season, including a stunning late equaliser against Trabzonspor to secure a 1-1 draw, much to the delight of his manager. "Shaun is playing really well and we are all pleased for him,â Hughes told the clubâs official website. "Last year he was lacking a bit of confidence and in the end he was perhaps trying too hard, which compromised him. âNow he looks very much the player everyone knows he can be." QPR have had a busy summer in the transfer market, bringing in Ryan Nelsen, Robert Green, Andrew Johnson, Park Ji-Sung, Junior Hoilett, Samba Diakite and Fabio Da Silva. They kick off the new season at home to Swansea City and Hughes is beginning to get an idea of how his new squad will look. "The team is starting to take shape in my own mind,â he added. "I am pleased with how pre-season has gone up to this point. In fairness, it couldn't have gone any better. But we are still building and still looking at options."
He has looked good but its pre season, Hogan looks like a world beater all the time in pre season and disappears when it matters. Hopefully SWP keeps it up
The player is class and always has been ... disrespectful comments made by our board to him in the past ... i hope a few more will now get behind him
Ah I forgot about the prediction competition in all the excitement of preparing for Season 2 back in the Prem! Reckon Roller will be able to stomach running it for a second season? Roller, if you're reading this, it was a sterling effort to keep that going last season, congratulations!
What I've always liked about SWP (particularly since he joined us) has been his ability to take men on and retain possession. If he can extend that this year into a timely release to a well placed team mate, Hughes' optimism will be more than justified. Don't want SWP to think that him scoring goals is the be all and end all. That'll only take him back to square one.
i've been one of his biggest critics on this board. but, If he proves me wrong i'll be delighted, but to be honest im not expecting him to.
Have to disagree. Very rarely has he shown signs of consistent class. Flashes here and there. Always vastly over-rated IMO.
Always thought the key to SWP is confidence. Hope it's building in him. It's so fickle - a a confident SWP would be fantastic for us
Think he could have really good season for us... but he going to have to be on form to keep his place in the team
"But we are still building and still looking at options". And the good news is not over yet!! So excited waiting for 18th.
