fletcher, olsson, warnock, phillips, bloke from citeh iv never heard of, all these players we are linked with are a backwards step to what we have been buying over the last 2-3 seasons. im gutted with the players we have been linked with. i hope mon has something up his sleeve because if we buy only one striker, been fletcher we are up **** creek. the bloke is decent team player but dose not score enough goals. Some of you guys saying "id be happy with fletch, olsson and phillips " are mental. they are ****ing ****e and not good enough for our team. we supposed to be moving forward not backwards, or at best staying on a level peg. ill bet anyone on here that if we buy that wolves monkey he wont hit double figures.

i love sunderland afc but im worried about the standard of players linked. hope its all bullshit and we get someone decent.

Agreed not the players most hoped would be gracing the red and white stripes mate but, if we do get them we have to let them prove us wrong hopefully. Warnock is a LB so I can see that one, Olsson is half decent same goes for Philips still all squad players at best though. Not Fletchers biggest fan (just ask Cest) but, if he does come to us then he'll get the time also depends on whether he comes as a second striker or our primary striker. Still not overly impressed with who we are linked with but, only MON actually knows who he is after and who he will get, let's hope we get them sooner rather than later.

We haven't got time to give a striker. We need someone to hit the ground running. Cos goals are going to be a massive problem if not

    Olsson > Richardson
    Phillips > Larsson
    Fletcher > Campbell

Therefore, imho, all 3 would be a step forward. Not a huge one, but a step forward nonetheless. Whther the money being talked of is worth it for that size of a step forward, open for debate.

Olsson > Richardson, can see that.
Phillips > Larsson, no Larsson is better.
Fletcher > Campbell at the minute my dead granny could score more than Campbell so not much of a comparison.

<laugh> All about opinions, Phillips and Larsson are different kinds of players imo, Larsson has better dead ball quality and passing, but Phillips is quicker and more of a headache for a full back. When I look at the counter attacking style MON likes to use, I think Phillips could be more effective in that system. They're closely matched though.

Who would you prefer to see us linked with? Perhaps a 'big name' like Asamoah Gyan? We know how that worked out.

Mind you, the way we are playing in pre-season it is obvious we need significant improvement, we'd struggle to stay up with the current squad.

Olsson is class. Guidetti is a world class prospect who did brilliantly in a European top flight last year. Phillips is in my eyes, along with Rhodes, the best prospect from outside the premier league. Warnock and Fletcher are solid players.

I'm not about to start moaning like a bitch.

If we get to the end of the transfer window having signed nobody... That's a different matter.

I agree 100% disco#2, and perhaps we should wait till the end of the transfer window before we get the relegation sackcloth and ashes out too, we need to see what the next 2 weeks bring - I don't think Cisse up the road took much time to gel - but then he does look quality.

<doh>. Phillips is an international. What has Larsson achieved that sets him apart as "top-class"?

In fairness Larsson had a fantastic world cup, he's experienced in the premier league, his free kicks, corners and crossing are amongst the best in the world, unlike many wingers he tracks back and he also chips in with goals.

If he had pace he'd be second to none.

Phillips hasn't done it yet. He's played very little in the PL and he's played once for a dire Scotland side. Great potential though and has looked class, closer to the finished article over the last 12 months. Hopefully we will sign him and he'll prove how much better than Larsson he is.

I don't think anyone on the board will be upset if you come on and say I told you so then.

We have had big names of the likes of Bent, Gyan, Bendtner, Cana, Mensah and Muntari in recent years and none of them have been good long term additions.

We need players to stick around more than 12 months to help up develop and the likes of Fletcher would do that.

They may not be the so called star names we all crave but they are more realistic and solid.

precisely this. MON is better at getting the best out of players who have ability, the desire to graft and possess enough humility to realise staying at SAFC will be good for them. We don't need a bunch of glory boys

I think atm MoN is looking at building the team around sessegnon. I read somewhere he wants to bring in flair players to take the burden off of sess. If you believe that to be true, Phillips and fletcher will make good additions. Fletcher to hold the ball up and get Sess on the ball. Phillips quick, skillfull, and someone who can link up with sess. IMO that makes Phillips a better choice than seb.

Larsson has 44 caps and 6 international goals and 6 years in the top flight.

Phillips has one cap and 1 year in the EPL.

I think Seb has earned his place above Matty Phillips at this present time and the title top class when comparing the 2
