Newcastle boss Alan Pardew has said he remains positive in his hunt for new recruits, despite struggling to secure several of his targets.
"It's out of my hands now." Pardew told the Shields Gazette. "We've done the selection process and put a number of players in front of Derek [Llambias, managing director] and Lee [Charnley, club secretary], and now it's about getting the players who can take the club forward."
This week had seen the Magpies stifled in their attempts to bring Lille's French international right-back Mathieu Debuchy to Tyneside, with the player voicing his frustrations to L'Equipe.
Speaking on the matter, Pardew said: "It's never easy at this level. But the one thing I do know is that we're getting the right noises from the players. As has been reported, the players want to come."
Pardew still remains hopeful over the deal, and claims the club are now able to attract their targets following last season's fifth place finish in the Premier League.
"That's because of the success we had last year - that bodes well," he added. "It's just about getting the deals right."
As well as trying to add to his team, the former Southampton manager has also attempted to hold on to the nucleus of his squad from last season. That included Senegalese striker Demba Ba, who always insisted his commitment to the club, despite constant speculation linking him with a move away from the club.
Ba's minimum fee release clause reportedly expired at the end of last month, meaning any interested club will now have to pay the market rate.
"I've always been relaxed about it," said Pardew. "I think Demba's said all he needed to say - he's a Newcastle player, and he enjoys playing here."
Meanwhile, Newcastle have confirmed they are pursuing action following alleged racist chants against their players in the goalless draw at Den Haag on Saturday.
The occasion was reportedly marred by racist chanting from some sections of the home crowd. A Newcastle spokesman confirmed in a statement that they will be addressing the issue with the Eredivisie outfit but will be doing so privately.
It read: "In relation to alleged racist chants reported during Newcastle United's friendly against Den Haag today, the club will be raising the matter with officials at Den Haag and the issue will be dealt with privately.'

Sounds like it's all a question of money and how much we want to play for the players Pards and the scouts think will take us forward.

The quote - "It's out of my hands", kind of worries me. I guess Pardew feels he and the scouts have done everything they can, and it's all in the hands of those with the money.

I think that it's no big loss if we miss out on him. We have a very thorough scouting network so he won't be the only RB we're after.

Yeah... "Out of my hands" is a rather foreboding statement... Or maybe sub-consciously I really want this to go through and don't want to hex it...

Hope it happens, but every passing day makes it even more unlikely!

Can't figure why Debuchy hasn't handed in a transfer request yet though?

Does that matter these days, especially with the french players?

Did Hatem Ben Arfa hand in one before he jetted over to see if anyone was at St james'? <laugh>

Then again, I suppose he'll want the higher transfer fee Lille are asking for because he'll get more money too, so it probably doesn't, make sense to want to push it through right now... Maybe it will come closer to the deadline?

I suspect if he does he doesn't get his loyalty bonus or whatever it is. Clubs will often ask a player to hand one in now even the sale suits them.
