Only one in and some folk are biting their nails as the transfer tumbleweed blows slowly through Wearside.

So, is it because the buyers market is indicative of the state of the economy or is it because clubs and players are being too greedy ?

What are your gut feeling right now about our club ?

Me, I have a feeling it's simpler than that. Maybe it's just because MON is one of the cleverest business managers around, who, generally gets his man by operating the way he does. Put it this way, regardless of which club he is at or how much money he has to spend, he himself has his own pulling power and more importantly, he, like Quinny, has massive player respect.

...Like most supporters, I am feeling a little apprehensive because of the lack of transfer activity, however, for some reason, part of me is feeling excited and quietly confident that MON will not only get who he is after, but, he will also bring in a couple of crowd pleasers.

But please hurry up Mr O.

Hope your version is right mate and MOn will surprise us with a few top signings in the next week or so, was expecting at least one in this week.
As for your question I think it's the players/agents they all want first team football which we can give them but, they then all want CL/Europa football which they won't get off many teams. All British players are still over priced which limits their appeal to teams when they can go foreign for a lot less.
I'm sure (sort of) that we'll see movement next week mind you I said that last week as well.

Incredibly nervous, we've apparently known who we want for months and done nothing, realistic targets have moved on to other clubs like Hoillet who ould have massively improved the squad, time is running out to bed these lads in in time for the start of the season and I'm very nervous, I have faith in O'Neill but the guy is not infallible and I think he'd waited too long and missed the boat personally

It's a virtue mate one that is wearing a bit thin at the minute even with the MON trusters on here myself included.

Nervous - we've got money for transfers and we've got space on the wage bill.

Agree with MON and Short that we shouldn't be signing any old dross, but we all know there are areas that we need to improve. I hope we manage that by day one.

Personal perspective is it's always good to sign people early in the summer - they get a full pre-season with your staff, so you know they will be ready to go, and they get on their way to gelling with the rest of the team.

Agreed about getting them in early mate we don't want another Brown/O'Shea thing where they need time to gel like last season. These are supposedly pro footballers and they need weeks to gel!!
Still it's nice to be calm.

This time to gel thing is a load of crap. Didn't take Cisse long for the mags.

If you think so. Granted, didn't take Cisse too long. But you'll always play better if you know what your team are likely to be doing - which pass they'll look to play etc

Suppose some players do take time but quality players shouldn't really need that long.

MoN said we will be speaking to other clubs about players on Monday so hopefully something can happen.

If no one in by a week on Monday then I'll be ****ting it

There are a few clubs who have not done much yet so we are not alone.

If there is no movement this time next week I will start to get worried. In the meantime I will concentrate on enjoying the Olympics and try not to think too much about it!!!!!

In short it's down to wages(no pun intended). It seems that owners(Dildo Bro's and Tony Fernandes apart) outside of the CL spots are not going to be held to randsome by players and agents alike. They are taking the FFPR rules seriously and this is good for the game.

I think we should just sack the useless ****er and get it over with as too many supporters have ideas way above our station imo.

I mean, he's been here over 9 months now (a massive 6 months with football to be played) and we havent won **** all. No trophies over the summer either. We havent signed 5 or 6 £20m players yet either. I say get rid of him now before we are relegated next season as he seems to absolutely ****ing clueless.

Lets go see what Mick Buxton is doing or Ricky Sbragia, as surely either of them would be so much better than Martin O'Neill.

I stopped reading too much into pre season friendlies a long time ago, possibly going back to the Lawrie Mc era when we won all pre season games, nuff said.

As for transfers - they are beyond our control, no point in buying for buying sake, we need quality not quantity.

I'm getting extremely bored with all of this. What do you all expect 5 star names to just walk through the door, it doesn't happen like that .MoN is obviously is taking his time to look at what areas of the squad needs strengthening. We have to be realistic there isn't loads of quality players on the Market, even then they have to be persuaded to come up north. What would you rather he takes the Bruce transfer policy, a scatter gun system of buying whoever and paying over the odds - wickham, Vaughan, Larsson, and Elmore to name a few. Just be patient.
