So let me understand this ..... based on his latest quote .... Liverpool's manager obviously believes that Liverpool are a work in progress to play like us. Reasonable to infer from his statements that he thinks Liverpool are less than us Swans in terms of football (I wonder exactly how that goes over up there). Why therefore would any player want to go to a club, where the manager believes the club to be less than where the player currently is. Money? Prestige? Entrepreneurial spirit - desire to take a step down and be part of a project with no guarantee of success? Drawn by the magnetism of the manager? Drawn by the blarney of the manager? What .... cause I must admit I don't get the value proposition .... unless it's all about money and he is going to be making more a week than we are willing to pay. Does Allen really believe he can learn more from BR than ML, that he can develop more hovering between the starting XI and the bench (do you really think the existing midfield are going genuflect and step aside for young Joe), or starting regularly as one of the keys in our midfield. Is it really better to be with a club run by baseball people trying to arrest a club in a downward trajectory, or be at a club on a 10 year upward trajectory run by football people. Either way there's no step up in terms of league football, Allen's in the Prem regardless. Is there really enough value to walk away from a club you've be at since you were 9 years old, where you're maturing into a top qualtity player, where the club have consistently brought in ever increasing quality in terms of coaching and player management. Where the club invests in the player and doesn't treat the player as an easy-come-easy-go asset.
Most Swans fans think we'll be flirting with relegation. Most fans probably think that Liverpool will be top 6 or thereabouts. So if you were a player, which would you choose? I doubt there are many people that seriously think that the Swans will finish above Liverpool. Liverpool's aim will be Champions League football. If you listen to most Swans fans, Swansea's aim will be avoiding relegation. Why would a player want to stay at a club where most fans don't have any faith in the team? Add into that the fact that Liverpool will pay much higher wages. Personally I think Swans will finish top 10 and hopefully above Liverpool, but if I was a player I'd probably still choose Liverpool.
Playing for a big club like Liverpool is probably every player's dream, but who are these 'most fans' you speak of? When we did a straw poll on here I seem to recall the majority voted us mid table next season. I include myself in that. I actually think Swans fans have a lot of faith in the team. You haven't addressed YJ's valid point that Allen will play a relatively minor role at Liverpool but a pivotal role with us. May not matter to some players, but that might matter to him. Who knows?
Ah Nobber , there you are, you seem ( again ) to be putting your own interpretation on things! The qoute your manager said is, '' it will take time until liverpool start playing the way Swansea did last year ''. Why, if you are sooooooo good, would he say, in terms, that the prefferd way to play is the Swansea way? I don't know where you dreamed up the other sh*te from Sonny, I'll agree that liverpool used to be big in Europe well so did the Romans. All ancient history. Your own fans say it will take years to go back anywhere near those days, and now so is your manager, who also implies that you haven't got the players to do it. Reality I believe is about to come crashing down son
Rodgers is really embarrassing himself with that quote. LFC finished higher than the Swans last season, won more games/lost fewer, scored more goals/conceded less goals, had a better goal diff, reached two finals/winning one.
"Rodgers is really embarrassing himself with that quote". It seemed like an odd comment to make. Can you think of any reason why he made it? Doesn't seem to me like the kind of person who would go out of his way to court embarrassment. Now,I can see Liverpool supporters being highly embarrassed by it.
...as you'd expect. But by your standards that wasn't acceptable was it? Ask Kenny. If he did say that then you're right it is embarrassing because it shows he's managed to blarney his way into making the owners and the fans believe he was the architect of the way we play. He wasn't. He refined what was already here and did it well. Laudrup will hopefully do the same - only better.
I have no idea what role Allen will play at Liverpool and i don't really care, as I don't support them. That's a decision for Allen himself to make. In the where will we finish this season poll I think most people had us flirting with relegation. Can't be bothered to tracked it down. But I also see many comments on here saying people will be happy if we stay up this season and that is all they want. You don't hear fans of teams like Liverpool saying things like that. Anyway, it's up to the players to decide which is the better option for them.
Rodgers is trying to shine a light on himself about his achievements at Swansea to impress Liverpool fans & is failing miserably
He'll find out soon enough that we dont want his time at Swansea brought up at every opportunity, Hodgson started off on the wrong foot with us when he apologised to SAF for becoming our manager and asking the manc boss to forgive him. So be careful Brendan.
Page Moss, unfortunately it seems that's the nature of the guy, he's delusional. I believe he was lucky to land the Swansea job and at least he didn't compare our team to the one he got fired from or the other one he dumped. I think he is a car crash waiting to happen. And on a personal note, it's refreshing that a supporter from another team doesn't come on our board spouting crap giving it large and insulting people . Cheers
Definite car crash pending , not what I want , just what I expect . At Swansea Rodgers had everyone rowing one way for him , not sure he can get that from the Liverpool clan .
Nice on mate. And tbf the vast majority on our board like the Swans, lets hope we can all move forward soon. Especially Brendan.
To be honest the vast majority on here like the 'pool to , I mean that's an easy 4 points to start with ! JOKING!
Yes the Rodgers/Allen saga has soured relations which is unfortunate as we've always got on well with them.
