If you can't see the difference between you fancying brunettes over blondes is so fdifferent to someone's religious beliefs, and if you seriously cannot see why referring to the Islamic God as 'an imaginary *****pfile friend' is insulting and wrong, then hopefully someone with the ability to remove your 'opinions' from this board will soon do just that.

 

Jerel Ifil is doing nothing wrong here apart from stating his opinion and others are disagreeing with that and commenting some are not.
Jerel Ifil has made a poor choice to follow a football team but that may have loads of other factors we know nothing about.
The fact is that he is on the QPR board as it has a lot of interesting posts and posters from a very interesting football club i take that as a compliment in a way
I don't agree with all his views and I don't even know if he lives in Yorkshire ... Queens. He has shared his views ... take it or leave it because I need to know what else is a forum for?

A straight yes or no will suffice, I'm not looking to blow this specific point up into another argument. I'm simply interested in whether you feel this oversteps the limits of 'opinion and banter' and moves into abuse and insult.

Some people don't believe in any gods ... can we still talk to these people and listen to their words? .... We cannot judge but we can give our opinions ... If Jerel Ifil was to sustain violence for his written words and beliefs then that must be wrong. We are only really entitled to return equal written words stating our opinions of him ... I am sure that he may expect to be called a few words.

Can we please leave out this rather meaningless word 'bigotry'? Opposing anything is 'bigoted', so you can only truly be unbigoted if you unquestioningly agree with everything in the world.

I can see why someone deeply entrenched in their illogical faith would take offence at my calling Allah imaginary and a *****phile, yes. But wrong? Not at all. See?

Maybe you could explain why religions should be given special dispensation to deflect criticism more than other beliefs humans have? Especially since 70% of non-religious beliefs are probably based on some sort of logic or reasoning unlike codified religions.

 

I would say NO and I don't agree with Jerel's viewpoint and i would ask him if he would want to comment why he believes this ... Three words used together in sentence ... its nothing even with the web refs you still can believe what you want to.

I had actually posted my reply before I seen his subsequent post with that reference. My answer though is, its not something I would say personally but each to their own. I believe in freedom of speech and I wonder if he'd said something equally vitriolic about Tom Cruise's god Xenu, would you be so quick to jump down his throat?

 

DT, my evidence for that opinion is linked in the word 'see' in my last post. I can find other material to support this if people find that source unacceptable.

Like Swords says, I find all religions destructive and harmful. My experience is that Islam is the worst of the bunch (of major religions), but Christianity, Judaism, Hinduism, Scientology and others have all, in their attempted foisting of stupidity upon their followers, managed to cause a lot of damage. But if I'd attacked any of those (maybe other than Judaism), I'd probably have got a very different reaction.

Imagine that picture of three QPR players at some Scientologist lodge, all dressed in their Xenu headgear or whatever that lot wear, and one of your fans makes out like it's a great thing that QPR players are going Scientologist. Would you expect people to just lay off them and not take the mickey a bit?

 

Very rarely disagree with you DT but this one is over the mark for me.
I hope everyone has opinions, but combing someones belief with a peado is unacceptable anywhere in the world and on any board.

Sadly, one pof my best mates is a yorkshireman and he'd be outraged that someone could post those views in the same post as proudly stating he's a yorkshireman.

Jerel, I have some questions:

1. Why do you dismiss other people's words (such as my use of the word bigotry to describe your opinions) when they don't agree with your viewpoint? That you are so narrow minded as to not even consider the possibility that you are wrong, in the face of so much criticism, is the best possible evidence that you are indeed a bigot. it's not meaningless, it's appropriately descriptive of your opinions.

2. You say you can see why someone would take offence at your words. You fail to understand, however, that this is the whole point. Read the entire thread theough - it's all about giving offence. whether you can come up with any wikipedia articles to back up your bigoted opinion with a fact is irrelevant. You are giving offence, you know it, and you still persist in doing so. Why?

3. Even the only two people on this board that offer you a sliver of support (Swords and DT) both say that using the term 'imaginary *****phile friend' is not OK. Doesn't this tell you something?

Finally, I agree with Northolt. Time for this thread to be closed, I reckon, as it's only going to descend into more of a trainwreck than it already has.

 

Why should I shy away from what I see as the truth because it's controversial? The alternative is to accept lies or untruths just so less offence is caused.

No-one yet has managed to refute my 'imaginary *****phile friend' claim which I stick by; the only argument against it has been that it was inflammatory, which I'd accept.

This whole thread has turned into a disgrace. It's vomit inducing and quite frankly makes me sick.

To the mods, it needs to be closed and actions taken imo. These topics are ruining our great board and creating a big divide between many a good poster. Something needs to be done, hopefulle the ones with the right authority does what it takes.
