Disagree of course as Connolly and Kasper were at that time a great partnership with a great understanding... to simply write him off is daft they boy can play with the ball at his feet ... its about confidence and Hughes must have seen things day on day ... as the names get bigger then the taking of your chances becomes more important ... no one on here can predict how he will do under MH. I think he has got something to offer myself and with the new guidance has every chance of becoming a great player for us. The facts are and still remain that he was outstanding for us during our promotion season. I watched him against Sunderland last season and he was awful when he lost Bentner ... i have since realised that Bentner is very good at losing his marker on set pieces. He was dropped after that and NW had a habit of buggering up players confidence ... that is why i base my opinion that NW is not a good enough manager at this level

Yes, three years admittedly. Some of the reactions are over the top though on what is a reasonable statement form MH. I take your point though and the frustrating thing is he has the occasional game where he looks decent.

And I was going to agree with you until you start slagging off COLIN LEGEND again! Jees hegot us where we are today, but wasn't given the chance to take us further. He'll forever be the King Daddy of all LEGENDS for doing that!! Connolly never really gave me confidence that we were nice and secure, and tight at the back, but maybe he'll improve???

A lot of short memories on here. He has lots of talent he just lost a bit of form and confidence. His versatility make him a good squad player. He is still young and centre backs tend to peak later in their career.

Main negative is his size means he struggles against physical forwards

Personally I'm delighted for him, played a huge part in our promotion campaign and has the talent to do well

You seem to be reading my mind today Flyer. It's almost like managers continually look to the lad's much vaunted 'potential' as a player rather than what he actually does on the pitch. He was too static for the upper echelons of the Championship let alone facing the best strikers in the world in the PL.

How many players do you currently have that need to be named in your 25 man squad rather than being on the U21s list?

I was surprised Dyer was given a new contract as if he's fit at the end of August that means he'll surely be one of your 25, and now Connolly who couldn't make the squad in January is being given a chance as well. I know in part that was due to Hughes not having seen him play, but with the season starting later this year there's not much chance to test players before the deadline so have you really got the space for this?

As a man NW was great for us sorry but as a manager in the premiership he was found out. We could debate that forever.
The goons in fact in truth started all this and they cocked up also. I hate the fact that fans on here just don't see that our journey went this way because of the goons ... would anyone else have purchased the club ... IMO doubtful ...NW did a fantastic job for the promotion but I truly believe he was responsible for his own downfall. I was in a minority when i first flagged his decline with some awful decisions... I feel that in time we will all see that he was out of his depth big time

Further to my "outing" of your strategy of talking up every Donkey that's ever pulled on our Hooped shirt, is there anyone at all that you will admit is simply a sh*t player?

    This should be interesting.

We were at 23 and now with HH gone its 22 with a FB, CB and CF needed. We wont have more than 25 players now so even Hogan will make the squad!

I agree, Eamon. Fair enough for Spunky to say he's not seen that much of him prior to sticking him out to Reading. If the boy's knuckled down and worked hard since his return and caught the eye, then can only be good news for us all. A win-win, methinks.

Eamon - I also agree with your statement. When we signed him initially from Arsenal, Mr Wenger was gutted to see him go. Every player will react different with different coaching methods - maybe Matt is more suited to the MH was of playing than NW.

not sure connolly is at the level we are looking for now - time to offload i think as he is a bit lightweight, especially at the cb position

Ive been waiting for him to get strong for about 5 years! Hes a bean pole and Ive always said hes a better FB than CB because he gets bullied by the big men.
