    Debuchy: Seydoux closes the door

Michel Seydoux was quick to react to the proposal of 6 million euros, together with a percentage for resale, made by Newcastle for Mathieu Debuchy, information published in the columns of L'Equipe on Thursday. " I decided that Mathieu Debuchy remain LOSC , we announced the President of Lille. The offer from Newcastle is definitely not at the value of the player. As we have significant challenges in August (including the dam of the Champions League), stop procrastinating. For Mathieu Debuchy parte, it would have taken the offer to be consistent and commensurate with its replacement. As the conditions (a start) are not met, it is my duty to make a decision . " In early July, the Magpies had offered 5 million euros for the right side Lille (27 years, under contract until 'in 2015), who had announced before resuming training, his intention to leave his club trainer. - LD

i cant imagine this going down well with the player. I do agree though 8million euros is cheap but I also think its not as bad as they make out. 10million + for a RB is out of the question

Why make the details so public? It's like a French Harry Redknapp. Urgh.

time to move on. if we dont want to pay 8 then we shouldnt be wasting their time. they said 8 all along while we never wanted to pay it. we either pay it or look elsewhere. what a waste of a summer this has been so far...

In my view I think it's fair play to Lille, they are not being forced into selling one of the best players, and especially not when the actual figure they are asking for isn't taking the piss by any means, I mean 8 million Euros for arguably one of the best fullbacks in Europe at the moment is not too much to ask.

We are very naive if we think every club will just roll over for us, and sell their best players just because we are an attractive option for the player himself.

We should go into transfers with respect to the opposing teams valuations, its OK to start off with a low bid, but if the club insists they will only hold out for one sum, than we either need to match the sum or get straight out of the transfer and move onto other targets.

Make no mistake though we've dropped a clanger here if they really are only asking for about an extra million pounds, its hardly breaking the bank and the money we would most likely make for moving Simpson on would cover the cost.

    Ridiculous in my view.

Heard it all before from L'Equipe and French club presidients. Indeed I'm sure we had the same situ with both Benni and Cabaye (aswell as other in the past). Reality is they have bought his replacement and are holding out because there is plenty time left in the window and they have a good deal of the cards. The bottom line is though, the players wants out and wants to be at Newcastle. Its just a game between the two clubs now.

31st August is a long way off and any protestations about timelines are a crock of smelly shiznit

Would be extremely disappointed if we missed out on him, though I wouldn't be too concerned if we started with Simpson at the start of the season. He only missed two games last season, he must be doing something right. To as for £28k is not obscene these days.

Pissed off with this Debuchy saga though....... dragging on far too long.

From everything I've heard, sounds like Lille want nothing to do with us if we offer the amount they want or not... Tis what happens when you poach from the same clubs...

Lille will play ball with us no problem. They just want a bit more cash after being stung by us after we took advantage of Cabayes release clause. Eventually Debuchy will get his wish. No need for us to go much higher.

Agreed. We are going to struggle finding mega value deals like we did last summer, our success has been well documented. Especially with high profile players who had a decent Euro 2012 run out!!
    So, Pieters, Anita?!

It's a bit like a boxing match with the boxers just sparring, testing each other out.

Too much to ask to just put an offer on the table with what we think he's worth.

If we get Van Der Wiel, I'll not really care. He was offered to us, and we should do it if the money/wages are right.

He's not really worse than Ben Arfa was.

That offer is pretty insulting though.

Is he in the last year of his contract?

nope, he has 3 years left. Many people applaud our way of doing business. The price of players has inflated quicker than currency has and there really is no need for some of the money being spent. Also, not to be a dick but £8million for anyone compared to the £35m you lot spent is always going to seem a bit insulting. He wants to join us, we know that, thats a bargaining tool, i dont see this as an end to the pursuit, i see this as Lille showing Mike Ashley they can play hard ball too and the reality of the situation is that they have final say. I reckon we will still see Debuchy in a toon shirt, but someones pride is going to have to be dented in the process, be it Mike Ashleys or the Lille chairman Michel Seydoux. Hopefully the latter!

Couldn't be more wrong. In my opinion he has played the situation well. Made it known he wants the move but hasn't held his club to ransom or burned any bridges.

How would you feel if he came here, did really well and then the proper big boys came knocking? Would you want him to refuse to train and effectively go on strike in order to force through a cut price move or would you like him to show a bit of class, keep his head down, keep applying himself and earn the move with us getting a good deal?

The fact he hasn't thrown his toys out the pram says to me he is a decent, level-headed bloke.
