Just been thinking about the players we've been linked with and who we have coming back from injury (Ben Arfa, Ireland, Gervinho, Gameiro etc) and realised we're maybe yet to see the best of Jonas. Every single criticism aimed at him is down to his poor finishing/final ball but I'm sure most would agree that his workrate, pace, stamina and skill are brilliant overall.

With the aforementioned players looking likely to arrive or return from injury, does anyone else think Jonas would be at the top of his game if he has skillful, attacking players to help him out? Whenever we see him hit a stinker it's often because there's no support and maybe only one or two targets in the box. If the likes of Ben Arfa and Gervinho are about I really think Jonas would be able to stick to short passes and run through defences instead of hoofing it, he's untouchable on the ball and his short-range passing with our only other skillful and attack minded player, Jose, is brilliant.

Watch out for it next season, I can see it happening. Ben Arfa in "the hole" would be brilliant for Jonas as we look like we're moving away from the "target man" ethic and Pardew seems to favour the less direct form of play. Maybe then we'll see what Messi and Maradonna are raving about <ok>

Agreed. Seeing Ben Arfa alongside Jonas rather than instead of could be incredible. The less reliant on Gutierrez for crosses and more for short plays and runs the better, great prospect.

I'd love to see Newcastle playing proper attacking football along the floor next season :)

Jonas certainly gives us a different dimension at present. He's more about running at players rather than someone like Barton who can whip in a decent cross. Like you say, a lot of the time he's not got much to aim for so with like likes of Ben Arfa creating more space we could see the best of Jonas next season.

Rep'd ... my thoughts entirely, we need to work the ball to the wings and hammer in deadly crosses with Kevin Gameiro waiting in the middle.

My worry is that if Jose goes we lose Jonas's support - these two link together well, and I think this brings out the best in Jonas!

Imagine being in a defence up against Gutierrez, Ben Arfa and maybe Gameiro? Defences struggle enough with just Gutierrez' trickery and dribbling...

    I would love this also.

We have so many attacking players when our squad is fully fit. Adding a couple of more attacking options in the summer and we are laughing!

Yeah. Technical and attacking football would be awesome/perfect. 50,000+++ fans deserve something like that. Good flowing football(sort of Arsenal-esque but mix it up with some direct football like Bolton do sometimes).

With some competition that has been lacking for the past 2-3 years I'm sure he'll pick his game up.

As Ferguson develops and we have the Ben Arfa on the wing option he'll see he has real competition next season, hopefully it will push him to be better.
