Yes, right up there as one of our more pointless transfers. Oh well - it seems that we've actually made a little profit on him as well which is laughable. Front page updated
The striker situation is absolutely critical now. There simply has to be negotiations going on behind the scenes. The season is 2 and a half weeks away and to go in with Defoe and Kane as our only strikers would quite frankly be ridiculous. And in my eyes for all the good work Levy has done this would be a serious black mark against him and his hard bargaining policy. Goalkeeper I'm not so concerned about as I think Brad has one more season in him.
Yes I think the goalkeeper situation can keep until January. Worst comes to worst, Cudicini could keep (or Gomes if AVB is confident enough). I think Adebayor has complicated it all tbh with his demands - going into the season with Ade, Defoe and Kane wouldn't look nearly as bad as just Defoe and Kane (obviously ). Ironically our striker situation could lie in the hands of RVP if the rumours surrounding him + Ade at City together are to be believed. If Modric goes however, I can see us sticking 2 fingers up to Ade and getting someone else (at least 1)
That's what I think and maybe Gomes could get another chance. I really want him to do well but then he makes an unbelievable howler and I get p*ssed off with him again! If we do get Adebayor in then it will placate me a bit, but I still worry if we get an injury we are so lightweight. Looking at our 4 main challengers for the top 4 (man u, city, chelsea and arsenal) we have by far the weakest attack. What's the point of having 2 of the leagues best wingers with no one there to get on the end of the crosses?!
You'd assume that the goalkeeping situation will get sorted out soon, as Julio Cesar has said thanks and goodbye to Inter's fans and Lyon's President has suggested that we don't really want Lloris. If we haven't made an offer for the Frenchman by now, then I doubt we'll be making one at all, but the rumours still persist about us picking him up while we're in America. Wouldn't be surprised to see us stick with what we've got, either. The striker situation's getting silly though, I must admit. You'd have thought that Villas-Boas would be well aware of that now, having taken charge of a couple of friendlies and seen how weak we are up top.
We will struggle to finish in the top 6 if we don't sign any new strikers. It's actually really incompetent of everyone involved if we don't. It's all well and good playing nice pretty football but if you don't stick the ball in the net it doesn't count for anything. I really hope I'm made to eat my words and a couple of massive signings are just around the corner!
I think Mods position might be seen by some as untenable, if Real blow it out, PSG may well provide an escape route, Ancellotti is a massive fan, undone his Chav side a couple of times!
Stephen Pienaar on twitter: 'Want to thank all the people @ THFC thanks for giving me the opportunity to play for such a Great Club.' 'All the best To AVB and the team for the new season' 'Just a shame didn't workout for me at the club but will cherish every second I spend at spurs was a great experience thank you guys.' Good man. I hope Everton works out well for him. Sometimes it's very difficult going back.
Ah a decent footballer! Makes a nice change to hear things like that. You never heard him once moan that his transfer back to everton was taking too long! I wish him all the best back at Everton. Always had a liking for them as I grew up in the 80's and nearly everyone i knew supported Liverpool although I live in Tunbridge Wells!
Agreed. Am I alone in thinking that he was also a pretty decent player who never really got his chance with us, for one reason or another?
Harry should have used the squad more (that subject has been done to death). Look at his impact at everton in the run in. We could have really done with him. He may have got us that extra point at least. He stopped man united winning the league - sort of!
So according to his agent, we are in for Julio Cesar; Although the agent claims that Tottenham have not made any official steps. http://www1.skysports.com/football/news/11095/7954648/ It's keepers ago-go too with us in for Stekelenberg as well http://www.tuttomercatoweb.com/?action=read&id=373694 And also 24 year old Lyon left wing Frenchman Aly Cissokho. http://www.tuttomercatoweb.com/?action=read&id=373576 Wouldn't want any of 'em.
Happy with Cesar or Stekelenberg. good keepers IMO. Who is Aly Cissokho? and is he better than benny? sick of all this talk about players that don't NEED replacing. there's far bigger holes in our squad. it's getting infuriating.
Fellas chill a bit - most of these headlines are crap. We know what needs to be done- AVB knows and most of all Levy knows. These wanabee journos are purely guessing. Yes is its irritating but it wouldn't be Spurs in a transfer window without numerous chewed fingenails
i'm glad you're optimistic. if isn't want august 2nd, I'd agree. but to me it smells of typical spurs last minute antics. Im not going to hold my breath. i reckon we'll end up with Daniel sturridge on the final day. As good a player that DS is, I'm not happy about settling for someone like him who's not prolific enough and settling for what could potentially be a chelsea "hand me down", whilst they are signing bags of young talent. we have to complete for the bigger names. otherwise we've seen our best over the last 3 seasons with 4th, 5th, 4th place finishes, respectively.
Exactly. Had to trust Wikipedia on this one: Senior career* Years Team Apps† (Gls) 2007–2008 Gueugnon 22 (0) 2008–2009 Vitória Setúbal 13 (0) 2009 Porto 15 (0) 2009– Lyon 91 (1) Although they describe him as a left-back, so I don't know what to believe.
I think that we need to sign someone as competition and cover for Assou-Ekotto, as the Europa League can drag on forever, Cameroon will probably go to the ACN in January and we need to avoid burning him out this season. He's been run into the ground until he's been injured in the last two campaigns and then we've struggled to cover his position when he's been out. His form clearly dipped in the run in both times, as he gradually got more knackered. Is Cissokho the right man for that job? No idea, to be honest.
