We win our first Barclays trophy of the season. Let's hope for a brace.

    Much, much better 2nd half.
Better shape, better movement, far better cutting edge and looked pretty dangerous on set-pieces, too.

The coaches look very happy with Kane and so they should be.
He seemed to provide some focus for our moves, even when he wasn't directly involved.
Decent movement, a few nice touches and a lot of endeavour.

Hopefully Villas-Boas will have seen a few things that need to be changed in the squad on this trip.
We're desperately short up front, as everyone knows.

Commentators laughing at the Red Bulls picking up their runners up medals, then being informed that they're still on air! <laugh>

Do the people on that show not understand how microphones work, or something?

He had a good game and was much better than Livermore so I guess if Parker and Sandro are out he could be.

Jenas can put in a shift but to be fair he is never consistent, he may show that he can start against Newcastle but he is clearly last pick in that position.

It was during the adverts YV, but Spurs TV kept the link live, so it was broadcast over the internet.
Quite funny hearing some bloke shouting in the background and some oblivious presenter saying, "We're what? The mic's are live? Oh..." <laugh>

Classy goal from Sig, very Eidur Gudjonsen. <applause>

First thing you see is JV didn't deal with the ball OTT, woeful challenge. Couple of nice pieces of play from Hudd I noticed, a perfect pass of 40yds or more from in our half up to our forward, and his run and shot after nicking the ball.

Agree. THudd looked very mobile, decent pace and shot. Gylfi looks very good. Dare I say we have someone who can deliver a dangerous corner <yikes>

  12. We were all over the Red Bulls like a bad rash. Sigurdsson is looking like an absolute steal.

    Anyone missing Modric, yet?

Agree totally about Gylfi, can't quite remember anyone having such an impact in pre-season since Berbs. Looking good so far for the amount we paid.

He was poor in the first half but then again so were a lot of players. On the ball he looked very good in the second half but I think he needs to improve his movement and sharpness off it but hopefully that's just because it's preseason.

No surpise to see a ball over the top cause us problems but the positives

    1. Sigurdsson is going to be superb for us, will be involved in all our attacking play and is a goal scoring midfielder.

    2. Bale taking free kicks, superb! he has the ability to score from a dead ball.

    3. We looked lively, full of pace...all we need is a quality striker.

We missed Modric badly in the first half, but not as badly as we missed Adebayor.
The balance to the side was all wrong and Walker looked out of sorts, too.
The movement in front of the back 6 was dire, which prevented any sort of fluidity and resulted in some cheaply lost possession.
When Bale was moved back to the wing and Sigurdsson had a forward to play off, the side had a far better shape and things came together.

  18. Hopefully, AVB will have learned all the lessons he needed to learn from making those tactic switches.

Part of his problem is that he has an embarrassment of riches at his fingertips, such that getting the right blend isn't necessarily as easy as it might seem. But it's a nice problem to have. Better that than to be stuck with a stable of donkeys and have to find a system to paper over their faults and weaknesses.

How does everyone think Bentley has performed? Good enough to force a way into AVB's plans?

Bentley was very poor, in my opinion, HIAG.
Out of position on the left and largely ineffective, despite putting in a lot of effort.

Unfortunately not so far. I've been impressed with his change of attitude but we need to either play him on the right or perhaps try him at attacking mid. His pace means he struggles to get crosses away at the best of times, which is exasperated on the left where he has to cut inside more. He also takes too many touches which might be down to a lack of confidence but he needs to be able to whip in a dangerous cross quickly when he finds space.

I think he'll be staying this season, I can't see anyone wanting him so I hope we can find some kind of use for him.
