We are closing in on him according to http://www1.skysports.com/football/news/12691/7956849/Leeds-close-on-Mackail-Smith
Another average player. No idea why Warnock's so desperate to stockpile over-payed strikers when we have no width or creativity in midfield.
Yes, he scored 9 goals in 45 appearances and Brighton are looking to move him on because he's an expensive flop. He performed well against possibly the worst defence we have ever had.
If so then why are we signing him in the first place? Ross is better than him so we are paying 2m for someone to sit on the bench. Better players out there for that money especially considering we could do with a winger more than a striker
Im not sure I think you would have to ask Warnock that one, and it was ten goals simon, and he does work his bollox off doesnt stop running !!
You're counting cup games then, in which case it was 10 in 50!!! Becchio also never stops running and he scored more goals than CMS last season despite playing fewer games and being half fit! Josh is right we desperately need a winger, and IMO a creative/attacking midfielder before we need a striker. We still haven't replaced Gradel, Howson or Snodgrass.
I would love Gradel back as much as anyone but it aint gonna happen !, Templeton would be a great signing but that seems to have gone quiet now.....
We don't need him back, we just need to replace him! We've let our 3 AM players go and not replaced any of them, hence why we have no creativity! Templeton would be a fantastic signing but, as I said, Colin loves his **** strikers.
Yea simon, we haven't directly replaced those players as you say. If we were to make 4 more signings I'd probably prefer an RB, 2 wingers and an attacking midfield. But with the signings colin is making its looking increasingly likely that we'll be playing 4-4-2
If we keep McCormack he could be the perfect partner for him. Rosco seemed to play his best when he was up front with Keogh & I think CMS could play to his strenghs well. Dont think for one minute I am suggesting losing Becchio though as I think he is going to be a hell of a player in a Warnock team, its just so unpredictiable at the moment just who is going to be running our front line.
Bucks bates will not give Warnock 2m to spend on a player so something has to give. my guess is its either a swap or McCormack is off somewhere else. which is more likely. because bates will want his cut. you might get 2.5 for Ross spend 2m for CMS and bates pockets 500k now that i can see happening
I wouldn't mind this signing as long as we keep McCormack, Becchio and Somma, and don't spend over £1m on him. And do sign some creative players too. And don't give him a starting place more than 20 times next season unless he plays better than last season. But none of that will happen if we do sign him, so I'll say no thanks.
Speaking to a mate who lives in Brighton and he says feelings are mixed down there. They think Gus is brilliant, but slipped up with CMS. he didn't always play him in the correct position and apparently CMS got jarred off. he runs his backside off for the team and usually gives 110%, but at times last season when played out wide slacked off the pace. The cash spent for Smith came from the sponsors (Mostly) but they now see it as a waste so want to offload him. Most fans are convinced that played in the right place he will score for fun, but Gus set his side up differently. CMS is also a bit of a lad and always got a blonde on his arm, even barry Fry's daughter has been CMSithed. he also got upset with Gus for spoiling his chances of playing regular for Scotland as he says Ross Mac and Rhodes are his main competition. Gus wants a replacement for CMS so needs to offload fast or swap deal for Ross. gus and CMS will never hit it off on the pitch, but are good friends off the pitch and Gus wants whatevers best for both parties. If we do end up with him he will probably score a bag full as long as Warnock plays him properly. prem quality player who's got frustrated at Brighton. He played 43 games in total with 7 coming off the bench. Scored 10 goals but created plenty, with a strke rate of 30%, yet played out of position mostly. Prior to that he was scoring every other game on average. he does however have a fantastic shots to goals ratio, which means if he gets a chance they are usually put away. beckford as we know will score 1 in 3 or 4 chances, but will have a go from anywhere. Brighton will cut their losses for the boy, and if he comes he'll have to win a lot of fans over. He also upset Big Sam last season because he turned down a move to West Ham to go to Brighton, as well as turning Reading down. Big Sam says he went to Brighton for the money and not footballing reasons ....
