Morning everyone in England Hows things? We surely must be edging closer to signing a right back. It only really just hit me that the start of the season is only two and a half weeks away which means that the first team should be more or less moulded into place with some spicy players coming in over the next couple weeks. I can imagine Crainie will be signing today, do we think he'll be successful? I think he'll be a good squad player to have, Warnock has said as much himself We also still haven't picked a player to captain us back into the premier league. Who do we think that should be, not who we think warnock will pick? I'll add a poll into the thread I shall think. I doubt the signings we make from here on in will be 'captain material' signings anyway so it'll most likely be someone already at the club Song of the day? we haven't done one for a while so lets make it freaky
On this day: 2006 Leeds finish off their pre-season campaign with a 1-1 draw at Grimsby Town. GRIMSBY TOWN 1 (McDermott 9) LEEDS UNITED 1 (Lewis 52) Leeds United: Ward, Richardson (Madden 65), Bonasel (Camfield 77), Gregan, Benscheidr, Einarsson (Hird 56), Asaba (Gardner 46), Bayly, Beckford, Moore (Garra 56, Howson 84), Lewis (Morris 65). Subs: Wilberforce. Leeds are giving trials to five new players. German defender Roland Benschneider, French defender Jerome Bonnissel and Senegalese international midfielder Aliou Cisse, join goalkeeper Darren Ward and striker Carl Asaba at Elland Road. Amazingly just ten days after signing for Leeds, David Livermore leaves Leeds to sign for Hull City. 2007 Leeds United duo Jermaine Beckford and Jonathan Douglas will not miss any first-team action because of their pre-season dismissals. Douglas was sent-off against FC Energie Cottbus for using 'foul and abusive' language, while Beckford was given his marching orders for dissent in the same game. However, as the match was a friendly the players will only miss reserve-team fixture. 2008 Leeds complete the signing of Argentinian Luciano Becchio on a three-year deal after a successful trial with the club. 2009 Leeds finish off their pre-season campaign with a 2-1 win at Premier League side Burnley. Mike Grella and Andy Robinson on target for Leeds. Team Ankergren, Crowe (Huntington 63), Marques (Michalik 46), Kisnorbo (Snodgrass 63), Parker (White 75), Hughes, Howson, Prutton, Johnson (Robinson 63), Showunmi (Sheehan80), Grella 2011 Jonny Howson is confirmed as the new club captain for the 2011/12 season. Howson replaced Richard Naylor who was released at the end of the previous season. Read more: http://www.leeds.vitalfootball.co.uk/article.asp?a=288680#ixzz22GtsIbdb
Morning Josh - I wouldn't wish to see any of last seasons bunch named captain, of the new signings I haven't seen anything of them so to name who I would like to see as a captain would be tricky. If Pearce lives up to expectation I wouldn't have a problem although I prefer a player in midfield to perform the task.
Morning Josh, morning Ristac, Nice Morning thread I reckon ther Captains armband will be offered to Ross, in a vain attempt to make him stay (as well as up his wages) Blimey, some of those names are blasts from the past
Always tricky having a striker as a captain Elland (Morning BTW) - If their form dips how do you drop them when they are captain or if we need a goal and your strikers are looking jaded or just not performing it doesn't look great subbing the captain.
I agree with Ristac, don't like strikers as captains. Not for the reasons stated, just they don't normally make good captains and I don't think any different of Rosco
Morning all. I've chosen Pearce, but by reputation only. That and the belief that we don't have much in the way of captain's material as far as I can see. As for the music choice, it explains a lot, Josh. I'd have brain damage too if I listened to that stuff!
Good Morning all Leeds fans ! I see The Sun has latched onto the Beckford rumour this morning.... "Jermaine Beckford is being lined up for a £2million return to Leeds" Apparently he is on Warnock's radar.
Not short of Captains mate! Norris, Pearce, Dury, Brown, Kenny, Green and potentially Austin could all do the job IMO
But are they proven captains? I'm sure there's loads of potential, but you have to be special to be a proper Leeds captain. And Snoddy wasn't, IMHO.
There all leaders mate, guess it remains to see how committed they are to the badge, which makes a better captain. Agree about Snod, think he was better left at concentrating on his own game although I understand the mentality behind the decision of giving him the band.
Tbh, I don't know enough about the new players or their capabilities. It as to be a new player, as I can't think of anyone from the old mob that's suitable. You've mentioned Brown, Bucks, but how many games is he going to miss through injury & suspension? Quite a few, methinks. Kenny? Never been keen on a goalie being a skipper. Need someone that can be in the referees face in seconds. Agree that there is a lot of leader potential, but how many excellent players have gone off the boil once appointed as captain? Quite a few. I guess it's got to be that old chestnut "in Warnock we trust"!
Agree about Keepers not being Captains, although Kenny will tell his deffence exactlly what he wants from them so it would be a waste anyway! I know quite a bit about these Portsmouth boys we have brought in and I think they will suprise a few. Feel sorry for Varney, he is never going to replace Snod but he will offer us something.
As for Brown he was one of our fitter players last year and with everyone putting a foot in this term I expect his yellows to drop as well. Think that the CM spot will be up for a bit of rotation though so perhaps Brown wouldnt be Warnocks choice
Morning all. Me thinks it will be Pearce - first signing, almost guaranteed to start, playing in the right position for a captain.
