How often did Paul Parker play at right back for us?

Looking at the squad we've assembled so far, I'm worried that we're leaving ourselves desperately short of stretchers and physio's!!

I agree. In fact, its very rare you see big tall lads make good full backs (Damien Delany <yikes>). Most of the top FB's are around the 5" 8 mark because that position requires a good turn of pace and a niftyness that huge big blokes rarely have.

As a matter of fact, I don't know what the hell Rhino is talking about. The truth is just the opposite of what he said!

Well it looks like young days are numbered. Hall, Gabbidon and Connolly all played too many games last season. Im sure Nelsen and Hall are not going to be able to play 30 games +

I'd say we need to two new defenders to give us proper balance through out the squad

    PLEASE NO MORE STRIKERS!!!!

You will notice I studiously added the word most. There are always exceptions to the rule as you well know.

Nit picking really is beneath you Stan.

Can't understand the comments ... as I am sure MH has targets for defence or he may think we don't need them either way I have faith in what he is building... our football is getting better and I cannot see us struggling at all... in fact I can see us doing well ... as i was looking to put on my bet I see that we are only 100-1 to make the top four! ... we were 500/1.

I am looking forward to see how we play tonight

I agree - for once with Swords points - I thought we were weak (vs the last year in the championship) vs the opposition. If the defence was so good - how come Kenny moved from being one of best players to someone we were happy to leave in one season if the whole defence was not weak. I think we need one or two more players still. Not convinced by our keeper yet also. I am not sure about traditional BrickS**tHouse FB - would like a strong and yet creative distributor CB. Or two. - who spoke the same language.

My assumption is that we are still chasing Samba to provide more options across the back 4. The worry is that a settled defence is the most important ingredient to getting the season off on the right foot and we still have significant changes to come in that area. Both MH and TF have stressed the importance of having the squad together as long as possible pre-season but they seem to have failed in this particular area. All things considered it may be better to work with what we have now although Onohua really can't be left at full back IMO.

I do agree in as much as I think it's not a catastrophe if we don't sign another defender but we could always make improvements. It's good that we have Fabio, who can play both RB and LB but I think we need a little more cover. It'd be nice to have both another dedicated RB and another dedicated LB. In my opinion, we have plenty of players who can full the two CB positions, including Onouha. I know Mackie can play RB but that's not ideal.

So, a RB and a LB would be great or just a LB and keep Fabio at right back all season. Traore, in my opinion, isn't the strongest defender but I actually rate him as a midfielder.

And it would be GREAT to sign Chris Samba!
