If some of you haven't seen it, Bale was fouled from behind by Charlie Adam in a pre-season Friendly in America. Bale has since branded Adams a coward and says he won't accept his apology.

Now, i'd like to first establish 2 things:

    1) I think Charlie Adam is a nob with an overinflated opinion of himself. (Now with correct spelling.)

    2) I don't wish injury on any player.

    BUT

When it comes to the Olympics, I get quite patriotic...No, actually, I ****ing love it. I'll find myself roaring at the telly, screaming some name I've literally just learnt 10 minutes beforehand, as they bat a miniature plastic ball across a table, or sweep a patch of brightly coloured ice in front of what looks like Neolithic man's first 'You always complain about the other iron leaking' last minute birthday present to his wife. I don't care what it is, there's just something magical about the Olympics, if you disagree watch Channel 4's ad for the paralympics, and if you still disagree, **** off, you're dead inside!

Now, I know traditionally football wouldn't be seen as a key event, but anyone who went to St James' Park yesterday, anyone who got dragged up onto their feet by some mental African lad with a set of bongos, anyone who joined in on the many (****ing many) Mexican waves, anyone who found themselves cheering the Honduran keeper's heroics as if it was Tim Krul in the final of the FA Cup, anyone who ignored the blatant refereering failures and bias towards the underdogs HAS to agree that it has a place and deserves respect!

Now we come to Bale, who, in my opinion, does not!

He was the poster boy for the olympic football, he was the one photographed wearing those shirts (what happened to them? They're miles nicer than the ones we currently wear?) he was the one who's image was beamed world wide, who's stock rose astronomically. He pulled out through injury, a back injury, and then scores a diving header a day or two after Team GB's first game...I may be going a bit over the top, but...****! In doing that he devalued not only the sport he claims to love, but the Olympics as a whole by suggesting a pre-season game was more important than representing your nation in the greatest sporting spectacle this nation has seen!

As I said, I'd never wish injury upon any player, but I struggle to find sympathy for Bale - the boy who chose to ignore the Lion, cried wolf and got bitten!

    and
Now, as a newcastle fan and supporting club that has a history of flair players, i'm surprised on a monday morning you have nothing better to do then post cheap digs at Bale, as Bale is just making comment due to feeling angry at the thought of a career ruined by constant injuries from bad, reckless, cowardly challenges.

hold on, i just re-read this

are you special or just a drama queen? Bale wasn't selected for the squad, if he isn't selected for the squad and returns early from a injury, he can't just pick up the phone and say "oi pearcey, im back early from injury, can you chuck one of the players out the squad and let me play"...use your loaf!

That's fair enough...I'd not seen/read that before. Does fairly devalue this whole article (drama-queen/special - you take your ****ing pick lad!)

Satiago - As a Toon fan from the UK, a selfish part of me didn't want him to play, but at the same time, appearing in the Olympics for your nation is, in my opinion, one of the greatest honours any athlete can achieve and should be recognised as such. I'd be dissapointed in the club if there was some form of ultimatum offered to Senegal or something underhanded went on.

Genuinely wouldn't have been aware if NI hadn't have pointed it out...Perhaps its the way commentators say/said it?

Jesus Was A Geordie <ok> the problem has been all the media over reaction and then you have every tom, dick and harry offering his view via the media and attempting to suggest Bale turned his back on team gb for a pre season game.

Aye, but as a Toon fan who is usually subjected to the barely-intelligent, poorly researched opinions of 'experts' entirely dictating the rest of the nation's view of us (we still haven't played a 'big team' in the 2011/12 season yet...) I feel a bit dirty for being guilty of it myself!

I still find myself reading between the lines to see the same injury withdrawal that Ryan Giggs managed to do every time Wales played a friendly in the last 20 years, Bale was sad to hear the news he wasn't fit? Pardon?

I obviously wouldn't wish injury on him, but it has made me more interested in Team GB potentially winning a medal, even if just to imagine Danny Rose waving it in front of Bale while asking him if he enjoyed his pre season tour.

Why would he give a **** about Senegal to be fair though, he's British? Not being funny but its a selfish world and whereas as a patriotic person I'd expect British players to put their hand up for the Olympics, I'm not really arsed about what the players of other nations do. Indeed I'd be extremely selfish where Newcastle players are concerned and say I strongly want them all not there.

Its a difficult one. Based on the comments from GB officials, the Bale camp and Spurs you'd have to say he has done nothing wrong except heal quickly. But I'd be lying if I said the whole affair doesn't smell very badly of Giggs/Wales syndrome. Fergie pulled him out for years and trawled out very similar excuses. The only ones who really know are Spurs and Bale. The only thing I'd say in Bales defence is he was adamant he wanted to play even when Wales tried to stop him. Why kick up that fuss only to **** it off anyway?

With the Adam tackle, its just **** on the part of Adam. He is a dirty player and likes to leave his foot in. I can only assume Bale has taken the piss out of him at some stage or made comment to him. There certainly seems to be a bit of history which we're not hearing. I'm not suggesting he is justified in anyway in taking him out, I just think there is more to this than meets the eye. You don't search someone out to crock them twice unless they've pissed you off.

When you say them all, does that include the British ones??! Not that we have many, but say Steven Taylor was called upon?

No that's what I'm saying, I'd feel differently about the British ones as I believe in putting your country first or in this case Britain. One of the main reasons we don't do that well in international competition is that if you asked the younger (and some older) football fans in this country to choose putting their club or country first, most would probably say club. Some would try to blame players, saying they don't care anymore. I think we can dispel that notion straight away after watching them this summer. We're just not as bothered about national pride anymore.

Of course I realise that my view is not entirely fair given I would not feel the same about non British players but neither is life and its only natural!

Charlies Adams should be publicly hung for what he did or even worse, loaned to Sunderland!

I don't see Adamss as a thug per say, more that he's a goalscoring midfielder at heart who is rediculously clumsy when faced with an opponent.

I think Adamsss has been told to mark Bale out of the game and being outclassed, he has panicked and made this rash tackle.

Got to feel sorry for Bale in all this, shame he chose club over country but to be fair, plenty other players have done the same. It was a reckless and dangerous tackle but I don't think Charlie Adamssss should be punished as heavily as some people are suggesting. Hes a clunker not a criminal.
