    From the Mail website:

Giovani dos Santos will discuss his Spurs' future with Andre Villas-Boas upon the club's return to England after the winger sent the Portuguese a timely reminder of his talent. The 23-year-old grabbed both goals as Mexico took a significant step towards the quarter-finals of the men's tournament by defeating Gabon 2-0 before a near-capacity crowd at the City of Coventry Stadium. Dos Santos took just 18 minutes to mark his arrival off the bench as a half-time substitute, producing a neat left-foot finish after strike-partner Oribe Peralta's clever backheel. And he stepped up to convert from the spot in added time after Gabon defender Henri Ndong dragged over Peralta, earning himself a dismissal in the process following a second yellow card. Dos Santos joined up with his team-mates following a three-week holiday and, according to his coach, Fernando Tena, is now nearing full fitness.

But the playmaker, who made just 17 appearances in four years since his arrival from Barcelona, is hopeful that his career at White Hart Lane may not be over. 'I've not spoken to the new trainer. I'll wait until the Olympics is over and then we will talk. 'I have to see what he thinks and then we will decide that's best. It could be good for me. There could be opportunities now that the club has a new trainer. I have one year on my contract and I can't do anything until that has run out. Until now it's been frustrating for me. It was a big disappointment that Harry Redknapp didn't play me and I don't know the reasons why as I almost never spoke to him. But I would like to stay in England and the most important thing is that I play. It could be that there is a space if Modric leaves but I don't know exactly.'

Tena added that it would help dos Santos's international career if he were to play regular club football, saying: 'He definitely needs to find his rhythm. He has the potential to achieve things and it would be better if he had that rhythm at club level because unfortunately he doesn't get that many minutes at Tottenham.'

Well he's not ruddy taking Modric's role! <grr>

Just get rid already, I'm tired of hearing about him.

Wouldn't surprise me if Villas-Boas wanted to keep him, to be honest.
Can't see Levy sanctioning it though, as he's only got one season left on his contract.

I think he's exactly the sort of player that our manager would like to play on the right, cutting inside.
He's tried it already with Bale and Townsend on the right and Lennon and Bentley on the left, with little success, in my opinion.

  4. Agree with this mate and despite Gio 'flattering to deceive' in his time with us, he seems to able to perform consistently at International level.
Maybe - and it is a very big maybe - he could be given a chance to prove himself in the PL. Trouble is where and instead of who, you fit him in. He certainly isn't a Modric replacement and difficult to see him getting the nod over Lennon on the right - although AVB may have other ideas.......

He's clearly got talent - the problem under Harry was he had 1 strike and he was out pretty much.

The odd 20 minutes in the Europa League is hardly time enough for him to come on and make in an impact when he plays 1 game in 20 either.

Maybe if he's utilised for a good length of time then we'll be able to see the real GDS.

I want him to get a chance as a right wing forward in a 4-3-3. He is suited to that role.

AVB will probably give him a chance. He likes "flair" players and I wouldn't be surprised if he utilised him like he did with Hulk at Porto - RW striker cutting inside with his left peg.

  10. I can see Gio performing a "Suarez" role for us. Obviously, though, without the racism and the cynical tackling.

  13. Hm. Perhaps the odd slash, but certainly not the triple-pike we see from Suarez.
