French is the official language of the Olympics mate.

Likewise mate, despite the fact I live in Spain, I still remain a proud Englishman, and Brit.

    Was a fabulous show.

Agree with almost all the comments above.

I thought the ideas were original and creative and fantastically executed by the professional and volunteer participants. The music, dancing, lighting and visual effects were awesome, and the comedy moments made me and my family laugh out loud.

A particular highlight for me was the understated but beautiful rendition of Abide With Me, with the fabulous choreography remembering the events of 7/7. Saddest point was seeing Muhammed Ali, whose frailty brought tears to my eyes. But the world will never forget what a sportsman and a MAN he was.

The lighting of the cauldron was a masterpiece of technical and artistic vision. Having great British Olympians nominate a young athlete to hand on the flame to was a stroke of genius, and a fitting way to create the legacy for future generations, as our original bid had promised. Watching the flames spreading and the 'petals' for each participating country combining, to create the unifying flame that represents the Olympic spirit, was truly uplifting and the most incredible sight.

In my view that should have been the final act, or perhaps having a rendition of Land of Hope and Glory to end, as Macca was really the only bum note (literally!) of the night.

The whole event made me feel very proud to be British and I feel huge congratulations must go to Danny Boyle and the thousands of performers, mostly volunteers, who produced one of the greatest spectacles I have ever seen.

The theme on Brunel was great as i have a large book about him, at 8 years old he was studying eucledian geometry !, and the work he was involved with was astonishing, a tunnel under the thames, bridges galore and of course the great steamship SS Great britain. And Tom jones or Dame shirley bassey would have done a better job.

When you think of Bejing and what it cost in comparison - it was a triumph.

I remember a little girl singing at Bejing and turned out that she was miming because the girl who was actually singing was not deemed pretty enough to perform.....!!!!

Non of that last night. I could not take my eyes of it!
