It'll be some pop 'icon' like Cheryl Cole. Although the gormless bint now likes to be known only as Cheryl. WTF, does she think she's royalty?
She can't sing! She can't even mime properly! Certainly someone to add to the list of 'things that piss you off.'
I would definitely agree with you there Cromer. Far nicer than Cheryl Cole. Shakira's not bad either - have you seen her dance?
What a magnificent opening ceremony. I thought the first segments from pastoral to industrial Britain were done so brilliantly. The music and sets were tremendous and a true spectacle. And it got away from the trying to be the best opening ceremony at all costs. It was pure entertainment with a message, although perhaps someone from Rwanda might not quite grasp its relevance. The second part went on a wee bit too long and I though Muppet McCartney was a flop just like his daughters outfits. Chris Hoy in Gold?
Agreed, I thought it was great! Well put together and not over the top. No one outside the UK would have really picked up on the Eastenders and Archers theme tune. Enjoyed the Bond scene with the Queen as well, brilliant idea! Also, agree about the McCartney part as I have never really liked him. Beatles are iconic in British pop culture but McCartney on his own is a bit rubbish. At least it is better than Cliff Richard. It also, indirectly, sticks a big finger up at Mitt Romney!
There we go - first medal, a brilliant silver from lizzie armistead in the women's cycling Very well done, the race was gripping as well
i thought the opening ceremony was fantastic, absolutely brilliant. the epic industrial revolution part where they formed the olympic rings was just wonderful. the music and the buzz of the crowd gave me goosebumps. here's the epic track by underworld for their part:
Am I the only one who thought it was a bit strange! As a show it was well done, the fireworks were brilliant, but, what was the message? It seemed to me that it was showing how we as a nation ground down and badly treated our working classes to line the pockets of the rich! All that industry has been long consigned to history, we are now a nation of greedy bankers, and even greedier multi national company's who now OWN the olympics! The NHS??? What the flaming hell was that all about? Most of our nurses and doctors don't speak the language and we leave people on trolleys in corridors to die!! I could go on but I will probably upset more and more of you who were taken in by the "spectacle"!! ILD OTBC
the NHS is one of this nations greatest success stories. i thought it was ingenius to include it (as well as having a huge dig at the current government who wish to strip away at it) and the tie in with GOSH and childrens' literature was a masterstroke. the tie in being jk rowling reading the first lines of j.m.barries' peter pan... a man who left his fortune amassed from peter pan to great ormond street hospital. britain is famous for its children's stories and i just thought the whole thing was epic and imaginative. the industrial revolution part where the rings were moulded was just spine tingling, unforgettable. the inclusion of tim berners-lee also great. you'd have to be either non-british or a daily mail reader to have not enjoyed it
I found the NHS bit a little odd too, yes it's a great institution, but found it a little odd to be celebrating it in 2012 when it was created, what 60-70 years ago. it was a bit like we didn't have anything else to celebrate about being british it's got be said though, i went to the olympic park on Saturday, and it's awesome. Sod all this moaning about G4S and the olympic lanes on the roads. i had no problem with the tube or security going into it. Isn't it great that we're getting into minor sports like Handball, beach volleyball, hockey etc. People always said once it got going we'd get well into it.
Who said I didn't enjoy it???? I actually said it was a bit strange, and parts of it didn't make sense! I enjoyed the music part (except ****ing LOOK AT ME McCartny, who can't sing anymore) allied with the current culture. The fireworks were sensational and as a show is was well done! As a British person I wonder if the rest of the world understood any of it? I suppose a Sun reader might have been taken in by it. ILD OTBC
I'm going on Saturday & Sunday and I'm really excited by it. I've been going to the ****e hole that is Crystal Palace for many years, so to sit in a seat under cover in a purpose built stadium that is easy to get to will be a real treat. I'm really glad all the hype is over and the games have begun. Can't wait to see Jessica Ennis doing her stuff! ILD OTBC
