I thought they would **** it up, big time, never happier, to be wrong. One thing, I know it was in London on a Friday night but did the GB team, have to look like team Essex. White with bling trim. Mind you that was better than the USA's paramilitary look.

Saying everything in French first was annoying, but other than that I'm glad we did something different to everyone else and it had some nice quirky Britishness about it.

I enjoyed the opening, but my wife who is not British enjoyed small parts of it, but for the most part didn't get it at all, and said it was aimed at the British rather than the world audience.

Again, doesnt that always happen? Isnt it because the modern olympics were invented by the French?

the modern olympics was first held in Grecce in 1896, I've run round the original track in Athens barefoot in summer.. don't reccommend it.. ;)

Likewise John i also enjoyed it. Really impressive and gave a good account of all things British. It was almost perfection with the Bond/Queen, Mr Bean items being very good and played out. But the highlight for me was when they changed the green pastures into Industrial Britain and the funnels came out of the ground and transformed the area totally. It was as an opening ceremony that is up there with the previous best,, imo. Much of it will have stuck with the world audience as far as i am concerned. I bet there were many who did not get or understand what went on in the 2008 Beijing one.

I thought the opening ceremony was a good spectacle despite being a rose-tinted view of our history, for authenticity they should have had Beckham coming up the Thames in a slave trader ship whip in hand or something similar. Watching Team GB in the cycling road race its looking like a sensational finish in store for us with all the lads working together to get Cavendish the Gold. 70k left.

It was annoying as hell, but what can you do. These things are usually a bore fest, but I thought we did it with an imagination not seen before. A new bar for others to follow I think.

Loved all the music last night apart from McCartney that is! I enjoyed it but I bet it was best viewed from inside the stadium. A few people who were in the crowd were tweeting how much they were enjoying it. Incredible that the Queen agreed to take part in that little film. Just watching the cycling but also love the swimming and rowing with the crowd definitely making a difference for them.
Not sure if it has been mentioned but I am just so angry with Giggs and all the other non english footballers male and female who snubbed the National Anthem. Must be the only sport in the Olympics were they feel the need to do that. They have chosen to be part of a GB team so go with it and be proud for once. If Giggs stands there stony faced again at the next match I think I will want to throw something at the TV. He was quite willing to accept is OBE from the Queen. They really are an insult to all the athletes and other competitors in Team GB.
