thats what I thought till I got the beast of the car I have now (2.7 tdi quattro). its an animal and its diesel! shocked I was shocked I tell yer..next one I get is the 3.0 tdi quattro with the updated engine..0-60 in 6 secs and 140+mph and over 40 to the gallon...amazing
I think it's anything pre 2002 is banded on engine size and then anything after that is banded on emmissions. But it is a load of bollocks though. We bought a Zafira so we wouldnt have to run 2 cars and the tax is £137 for six months which is more than it was for the 2 cars put together. Yet apparantley using this one car is more damaging than using 2!!
I couldn't possibly tell you as I'm not an mot tester but as Newark said pre 2002 is grouped on engine size rather than each individual cars specification. Check your last mot vs the specs on the wisebuyers guide should be interesting to see the difference.
