Thanks from VivaF1:According to The Economist, Red Bull are considering launching a "Red Bull US" F1 team with American drivers. Did I miss something? From the economist: Red Bull, a team owned by an Austrian energy-drinks firm, is said to be looking at launching a new “Stars and Stripes” Formula One team with American drivers. Local drivers boost audiences. Link: http://www.economist.com/node/21559639 Could this even work? Will this be the end of Toro Rosso or will RBR be allowed to start up another team to tap into Americas billions? Will other big (rich)teams like Mercedes, Ferrari, McLaren and Sauber? also do the same if it was allowed by the FIA?
I have no clue, but i dont think so. They still sponsor drift events though: http://www.redbullmea.com/cs/Satellite/en_MEA/Red-Bull-Car-Park-Drift-2012/001242984270617
I think it's an obvious but brilliant tactic by RBR to have an American team to corner the market over there. Be nothing but £££££££££££ coming out of their ass!
Not necessarily, loads of people said Scott Speed would change things and we all know how that worked out. Personally i do not see F1 ever becoming truly 'big' in America, they have their own racing disciplines that they love and in the case of NASCAR are very different to F1. I actually went to school with a kid from Seattle and he said that F1 only really had a 'fanbase' to his knowledge in the north east (although this was just before Hamilton broke through so I am not sure if maybe the interest has gone up since) I just don't see anyone in F1 really being able to make an impression over there, unless this 'team' can produce a superstar driver like Kimi, Lewis or Alonso
There's a fairly decent following over here, certainly nothing like Europe, but it exists. A good American driver or team would certainly help boost the profile of the sport... It's just a case of finding that talent that's willing to move out of the U.S. long term. Especially when they can race domestically and earn a massive wedge. I'm not sure that a third Red Bull team appeals to me though. F1 could soon become FRB. Plus the controversy that would come in if they appeared to be working as a single team.
let me guess... FAIL Personally I think STR should be sold and Red Bull only allowed 1 team How did that happen?
How many teams do Redbull want? They'll be more powerful than Bernie soon, and start setting there own terms That would be an interesting power struggle.
I imagine Sebastien Bourdais would not be particularly keen on returning... This doesn't strike me as a particularly good idea. It would be the equivalent of Manchester United buying out a lower-league club in order that they can play their reserves. Toro Rosso create enough of a grey area as it is.
Does anyone think that the solution to "rookie teams" could be to follow the example of MotoGP and create a two-tier championship?
