You can say "lets give the lad a chance", but I thought that a newer manager, if not better all round than Dalgliesh, would still be more sensible when it comes to transfers.

Allen is a good player. Good passer, canny in defence, but from what I've seen, he's worth half that at the most.

He looks like a Charlie Adam type player, but with a bit less vision, and not as much experience.

If the reported transfer fee is accurate, then I can safely say Liverpool are just going on a downward spiral, and not learning their lesson.

Swansea were a good mid table side. Giving the teams just below you a lot of cash for a player not at all worth the money, isn't going to help you.

12.5 and 13.5 are frequently mentioned fees.

The main issue for Liverpool is the reputation they now have with clubs, and its the same reputation we had for many years - whatever they bid for a player the club will think they can squeeze another 30-40% from them. If it was Tottenham bidding £8m then Swansea would know that they wouldn't get more than £9m at best.

They do seem to be throwing stupid money at players that have had one good season the the prem, like adam and henderson, carroll only had half a good season with us. Was allen even in the GB squad?

Allen is absolutely staggering statistically at Swansea - check his passing accuracy stats... better than Barcelona!

He is key to the way Rogers likes to play football. It does look like they're paying over the odds for him but if he plays as well in a red shirt as he did in a white one, Liverpool have themselves a bargain.

I get that but he only did it for one season. Benjani looked good for one season. he's quite young so the price will be higher. I agree with tash though, it's liverpool so they're seeing how much they can get out of them, just like we did

To be honest he's a very talented player who could easily justify the price-tag.

Stats mean bollocks. According to stats, Rangel is the best passer in the division.

All it means is that he played the most simple passes that couldn't be intercepted.

Swansea didn't play great football, they just played unrisky passes to keep possession, then gradually worked their way up the pitch.

They played like 20 passes in midfield, then back to the left back, back to goal keeper, back to left back, then it started all over again.

    Stats don't mean a lot.

To some that is great football. It's good if it's your team doing it.

Agree with that. Kenny was snapping up players based on hype rather than proven ability. Lots of players have had one or two good seasons and shown great potential, only to then disappear. Liverpool have potentially spent ££millions doing that in the last 2 years.

From what I've seen of Allen, I agree. He could actually be one of Liverpool's better signings in recent years. Time will tell of course, but at least Rodgers knows what he's getting and how Allen will suit the style of play he's after. Could be a very good move for Allen. Could also mean time at Anfield for either Adam or Henderson.

Depends how it's played, if it's mainly in the final third of the pitch (Barca & Spain) it's incredible and fascinating to watch, but if it's primarily in your own half it's pretty tedious stuff. Our win away at swansea was one of the most boring games of football i've seen, good job we had an in-form striker on the day that lit up the game with a couple of great finishes.

    Um, what ?

The quote is a reasoned and reasonable opinion. Disagree by all means, and put forward a reasoned opinion of your own if your have one.

Tash, whatever his faults, is awake. He may even feel that Brendan Rodgers got the Liverpool job the same way that Dlagliesh did - - as a result of a panicked and poorly thought out decision by the Liverpool board.

This clearly isn't a Dalglish-esque throw money at a player based on a short run of form signing though, its a player Rodgers knows very well and is well aware of his capabilities. The price is still steep of course, but if he's going to build his new team around that type of player it could be a good start. From what I've heard from Swansea fans (and from looking at their league position in their first top flight season I'd be inclined to agree) our away game there was a terrible game to assess how they play.

He is in the GB squad for whoever asked, started yesterday and in the Brazil warmup game.

I think the difference was that last year COMOLLI (who needs to take blame here) and Kenny went out with a list of players to buy, who were realistic and they liked - Adam, Downing, Enrique, Bellamy, Carroll etc

This allowed clubs to charge us top dollar for them, because they knew we wanted them, everyone did.

This year, we've went out with a list of positions to strengthen - such as left wing, or midfield. This meant that when Sigurdsson asked for more cash and Hoffenheim bumped the fee up, we told them to do one.

Allen I think will (could I should say) be a good buy, he's very Spanish for a Welshman!

Swansea were a bit boring at times but Liverpool will have better players infront of Allen so that they can start dominating in the final third. Still think its a bit much mind, but thats what happens when trying to buy a young British player. Glad we got cabaye for around third of price though!!

I've just been reading Stevie G's recent "top 4" quote and the various comments posted about it. The one below if fairly typical.

"I'm sorry... I dont see this happening... Man U, City, Arsenal, Newcastle, Chelsea and Spurs (No particular order) I believe are still way ahead of Liverpool and dont see them getting any higher than 6th. "

Frankly I think they're flattering us a bit, but like all flattery it's nice to hear
