Not just to wind up the doom-mongers (although that is fun too), the current shape of the squad is looking great.

We have some fantastic players joined us - Kenny, Austin, Varney, Norris, Pearce, Green, Ashdown - with some good squad and youth players - Brown, Gray, Pugh, possibly Crainie, Roberts, Thompson, Lees, White and the other kids signed up - alongside Becchio and McCormack, with Somma to come back.

The solidity of this squad will already put us way ahead of the last two years' powderpuff units. The midfield strength is clear, and it will protect the defence, which looks stronger than we have had previously although we do need proper right and left backs. No more Lees there please.

Whether they can play as a creative and incisive unit will be seen over time, but it could be that we are only one or two players away from a top top team.

I like what I am seeing. Unfortunately all I hear on this forum is negativity.

I think we're far from completion as of yet, but I'm confident we'll get there. Although the signings so far (except Pearce and the unknown quantity of Austin) are far from the quality needed for absolute optimism. Kenny, Varney, Norris, Green etc, are no better than what we have sold/have at our disposal already. They are certainly useful as squad players however.

    But I'm definitely optimistic!

Sincere apologies...but couldn't resist, it wasn't my fault more over it was the fault of some of your deluded supporters which forced me to comment. Don't worry, there are plenty of deluded fans supporting my team too "not quite on the level of your fans" but there some LOL!

Leeds are no longer a top club, yes you have history...yes, you where once flying high...BUT it is long over. When your fans realise this the better.

In all your excitement about how well we are going to do you can tell all the ex Portsmouth players yourself - Hang on, do you hope they never play again or are they now our exciting solid players? <ok>

Drury's a specialised LB, we just need a decent RB and the defence is sorted - far better than the start of last season where we had O'Dea at LB and the hopeless AOB in the middle.

Every player in bold is far from what I would call "fantastic", average at best is probably a better description, Derby fans were laughing their ****ing heads off when we signed Paul Green, Clayton has more creativity in his little toe than him and Norris combined. Also McCormack will be off as soon as we get an over-priced average player like Maynard or CMS to replace him. We're a long way off "one or two players away from a top top team". IMO we still need a creative CM, a RB, a CB/utility player, an AM, 2 wingers and a forward, and if we want to challenge for promotion they would all need to be of a higher standard than we've seen so far.

And you felt such a desperate need to tell us this why?

We got some real grafters in and cheap. Watch the flair players come in now & we will be ready to give it a pop. Norris is a good acquisition. A box to box midfielder that will chip in with goals and isnt even a guaranteed starter. I know a few Portsmouth fans that agree and think we will get a good few seasons out of him, another fit player raring to go.

Not to mention we wont get bullied in midfield and the midfield is protecting the best back 5 we have had in years IMO. Need a bit of creativity sure and maybe some added pace but White & Rogers are quick, just depends on where they fit in <ok>

David Norris has left Portsmouth and helped them along the way to improve their chances of survival. Well done David <ok>

I am feeling positive, team looks a lot stronger than last year, would like another 2/3 signings without loosing any more first team players, couple of good loan signings that will fight for the cause, how would we feel to see Ephraim return, maybe on loan? Something like that, maybe?

The new look squad Colin is assembling is loads better than last season, lets see who else rocks up at TA. McCormack will go. As for that knobend snarf, yes we are not a top club, but we are still a BIG club, and there's not a lot of them around. Still don't get it? In Scotland, Rangers are no longer a top club, but still a BIG club. Got it now? Oh I give up....
