maybe i'm missing the point here but isn't this what well run clubs do? buy a young player for pittance and sell them on to the big boys for a healthy profit so they can reinvest it in the first team? you could probably sign five new players that will help you push on with that money.

Supers yes I get your point but we have a threadbare squad as it is! We need some strength indepth and we simply haven't got that in all positions. We need additions this summer not outgoings! <ok>

Just to add that so far this summer we have spent less than £400K so is the owner saying that this is the total transfer budget! It certainly appears that way! <yikes>

This story is nonsense. There is very simply a budget defined by our turnover + £2m a season.

Come on Warky... EADT? Come on... Stick to TWTD.

For goodness' sake, why not actually read the story?

Nowhere does it say that any further purchases are dependent on Cressie being sold. All it's saying is that Jewell only wants Friend if Cressie signs for Villa - ie he has other targets he'd rather bring in if Aaron stays with us.

I have absolutely no problem with Cresswell being sold and at £4Million it is Kerching! Kerching! We are however threadbare in most departments and we desperately need some strength in depth especially in Defence! We get some injuries and suspensions and we will be in the ****e!

You can only be considered a decent team by looking at the quality on the bench and let's be fair ours is shocking! <ok>

We desperately need more players in and it shouldn't be dependent on moving first team players on!

Exactly, what else would you expect from a newspaper who's parent company is run & based in Norwich..!

I know for a fact that Archant have banned some Town fans for posting on it's forums for being critical of some of it's so called press coverage/articles of Town over this summer........That's freedom of the press for you....

But Johnny, no-one is saying it is.

The story you've linked to suggests that PJ only wants to buy Friend if Cressie is sold - ie he'd be a replacement. If Cressie isn't sold, we don't need a replacement!

You're reading something into this non-story that just isn't there.

Most Newpapers sensationalise things nowadays because their popularity is waning with news being available pretty instantly online especially with Twitter. The EADT has always been pretty poor but I would say from my recollection that they have become seriously cr*p since Jim's last season!! Clearly some of they are having some success though with their target audience as JWM you seem to throw the baby out with the bathwater on any headline!!

As for the actual story, it's not saying ME is saying we have to sell before we buy it appears what Jewell is saying is if Cresswell stays we don't need Friend as he is seen as his replacement. Although I do doubt this and think it's just the EADT thinking this could be a possibility do have made a headline up about it, I would imagine from the reports Friend is seen as more of a CB.

Completely agree with supers, its about time the club reigned in with it's money as it got stupid under Jim and Keane and it took us backwards and ruined our identity. Although saying that I do think it's a shame that Jewell didn't have the money his predocessors had because I'm sure he would have spent it much more wisely, his record for us when he's paid a transfer fee has been very very good IMO and looking back at his previous clubs he has spent good money fairly well also!!!

As for the squad being threadbare, well it isn't exactly big but in some ways that could be a good thing our first choice 11 is pretty decent and previously under Keane we had a massive squad and that really didn't work, it probably means there will be some consistency in our starting line up. Looking around the division though it seems alot of clubs are in similar situations and I would say our business so far compared to most has been pretty good!! We definitely need at least 2 more players for the season 1 CB and a striker and if we can another winger and a striker on top of that but I'm fairly happy how the squad is shaping up!!

How can you only be considered a decent team by looking at the quality on the bench?? I understand you need some quality on the bench but to me you judge the quality of the team on the first team and having a strong bench is a bonus!!

    Sure.

Our first XI is looking pretty good, but we could do with another CB and ST. Anymore strengthening would be a bonus.

Youre pretty happy with our transfer business, it's better than chucking money down the drain.

your translation services may be required for me. I always think my posts go on to long!!

As for this article - I agree with the view which suggests we only want him if Cresswell goes. Its a rather stupid stance to take thinking Middlesboro had a bid accepted last weekend. His move there could be signed before Cresswell leaves. For 250k I think its a good deal regardless. He can cover a few positions where we have little or no cover and would hopefully push delaney further down the pecking list. Oh and JWM has sensationalised a story a lot more than the EADT who a lot of posters have accused of sensationalising!

the translation of which could be
Friend sign him anyway, Delaney **** off, JWM calm down for the good of your health!
